Sanjiv Malik elected president of IMA

Dr Sanjiv Malik was today declared elected as the national president of the Indian Medical Association (HQs).

Dr Sanjiv Malik, who is presently the secretary-general of the Indian Medical Association, has made tremendous contributions to the healthcare scenario of the country. His positive, pro-active working commenced with the initiation of the movement against female foeticide, which was spearheaded by IMA and finally became a national movement, a release said.

Dr Sanjiv Malik happens to be one of the youngest elected national presidents of the Indian Medical Association, which is one of the largest medical bodies of the world. His unanimous election is an indicator of the medical profession’s unflinching support to the pro-active steps initiated by him.

He has tremendously contributed to the cause of continuing medical education for doctors and initiated launching of the “CME credit hours wing” of IMA. Under this concept, Indian Medical Association recommends that every doctor must update his knowledge through minimum 150 hours of Continuing Medical Education (CME) every five years.

Dr Sanjiv Malik has also played a major role in IMA contributing to drug regulatory issues. The Indian Medical Association today plays an important partnership role with Government of India in formulating drug policies. The latest has been IMA’s adoption of a policy statement on “Off-label usage of drugs” at the request of the Government of India.

Dr Malik has also played an important role in IMA collaborating with various international medical bodies like World Medical Association (WMA), The Commonwealth Medical Association (CMA) etc. The IMA today plays an important role in global bodies, and Dr Malik has actively participated in global conclaves on issues like bio-terrorism etc.

After his election, Dr Sanjiv Malik said that one of his major tasks would be “to initiate a mammoth exercise of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) though WHO, other global bodies and the Government of India for end-delivery of various health projects of the country.”

“I strongly feel that the private sector needs to play a very important role for healthcare delivery and we would ensure that IMA takes the lead in this respect,” Dr Malik said.

Collage Group annex cricket title

New Delhi, April 19
An all-round display by Rakesh Singh (3 for 39 and 84) and deadly bowling by Anuj Kumar (3 for 38) helped Collage Group defeat Lal Bahadur Shastri Club by two wickets with three balls to spare in the final of the ARBDM Cricket Tournament for the Uttam Toyota Cup at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

Collage Group received a cash award of Rs 30,000 while Shastri Club got Rs 25,000.

Gautam Gambhir was named the best batsman while Amit Mishra received the best bowler award. Rakesh Singh was adjudged the man of the tournament. The prizes were distributed by the director of BDM Sunil Mahajan.

Electing to bat, Shastri Club tottered at 23 for 4, but India opener Gautam Gambhir played a cameo knock of 70, off 58 balls with nine fours, and Pradeep hit an unbeaten 95 with seven fours and one six to take Shastri Club to a satisfying total of 226 for 9 in 40 overs.

Collage Group raced to the victory target with three balls and two wickets to spare.

Scores: Lal Bahadur Shastri Club: 226 for 9 (Pradeep Chawla 95 n o, Gautam Gambhir 70, Anuj Kumar 3 for 38, Rakesh Singh 3 for 39).

Pelican Club pip Patel Nagar in DDCA League

Pelican Club defeated Patel Nagar Gymkhana by 216 runs in an A-II Division match of the DDCA League on the RSC ground.

Scores: Pelicans: 304 for 4 in 40 overs (Deepak Anand 105 n o, Sanjeev Bagga 60, Ratam Lal 56, Manish Pathania 41).

Patel Nagar Gymkhana: 88 all out in 26.3 overs (Amandeep Singh 32, Harpreet Singh 5 for 30, Deepak Anand 3 for 29).

Ministry of Information and Broadcasting defeated Friends Club by eight wickets in an A-II Division match on the Yamuna Vihar Sports Complex ground.

Scores: Friends Club: 132 all out in 30 overs (Sahil Chugh 43, Anshul Garg 30, Baljeet Singh 3 for 25). Ministry of I and B: 133 for 2 in 21 overs (Kuldeep Bhan 56, Naveen Kumar 36 n o).

Pioneer Club beat PNB by 109 runs in an A-II Division on the Khalsa College ground.

Scores: Pioneer: 252 for 7 in 35 overs (Ashwin Sharma 100, Surender Kumar 91, Sanjeev Yadav 2 for 29). PNB: 143 for 1 in 35 overs (Anil Kumar 68 n o, Pawan Kochar 30, Y K Saxena 25 n o). Super Star beat LIC by eight wickets in an A-II Division match on the Moha Meakins ground.

Somesh Goyel wins PHDCCI Golf title

DIG of National Security Guards Somesh Goyel became the overall winner in the PHDCCI Golf Tournament at the Golden Greens Golf and Country Club, Gurgaon. Bhutanese Ambassador to India Lyonpo Dago Tshering teed-off the tournament.

Apart from the trophy, Somesh Goyel also won two Air Sahara two-way business class tickets to any destination in India from Delhi. In the ladies open category, Puja Batra bagged the first prize and Rana Alam finished as runner-up.

Peter Fuboeurough emerged winner in the 0-10 handicap category while Amit Luthra finished second. O. P Kalra and Raj Bhargawa won the first and second position respectively in the 11-18 handicap. Wg Cadr Bassara won the trophy for the nearest to pin category for men while Jagjeet Singh, who cleared 285 yards, lifted the trophy for the longest drive. Ravinder Kumar emerged first in accurate drive.

Neha Majithia won the longest drive trophy in the ladies’ section while Puja Batra won the “most accurate drive” prize.

PHDCCI vice-president K N Memani and sports committee chairman S K Sarkar emphasised PHDCCI’s commitment to promote sports.

Navy sail into Sood Cricket semi-final

Deadly bowling by left-arm spinner Arun Sharma (3 for 22) enabled Indian Navy defeat Rajdhani Sports by eight wickets to enter the semi-final of the Om Nath Sood Memorial Cricket Tournament on the Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce ground, Pitampura. Arun Sharma received the man of the match award from chief guest Raj Gill.

Scores: Rajdhani Sports: 143 in 37.1 overs (Tara Chand 34, Ramit Gill 20, Bhupinder Yadav 20 n o, Arun Sharma 3 for 22, Sandeep Pandey 2 for 17, Sanjeev Mishra 2 for 32).

HDFC Bank enter final

HDFC Bank defeated NIIT by three wickets and entered the final of the Teri Cup Cricket Tournament at the Teri Oval.

Scores: NIIT: 109 for 9 in 25 overs (Sanjay 30, Vikas Khurana 3 for 23, Sant Ram 2 for 11).

HDFC Bank: 112 for 7 in 22 overs (Deepak Sharma 39, Kapil Gupta 4 for 25). Deepak Sharma was named the man of the match.

E-Funds move up

E-Funds defeated Vertex India by 58 runs in the CallC Cup Cricket Tournament on the Ramjas ground.

Scores: E-Funds: 217 for 4 in 25 overs (Parminder Negi 51, Sandeep Toshkani 43 n o, Hardeep Singh 40, Pankaj Ahuja 2 for 21).

Sudhanshu, Manika bag TT titles

Sudhanshu Grover defeated Raghav Pangasa 11-7, 11-9, 11-7 in the kids boys final of the Hans Raj Model School Open Table Tennis Tournament at the school premises. In the girls final, Manika Batra beat Priya Mittal 11-5 11-4, 11-9.

In the semi-finals, Sudhanshu beat Utkarsh Gupta 11-1, 11-5 12-14, 11-9 while Raghav defeated Sahil Sachdeva 10-12, 12-14, 11-1, 11-3, 12-10.

Varun Anand defeated Kartik Kukreja 11-7, 8-11, 11-9, 6-11, 11-9 to lift the sub-junior boys singles crown.

Nishank Bajaj will face Varun Jindal in the boys singles final while Easha Monga will take on Sanya Sehgal in the girls singles final.

In the boys semi-finals, Nishank Bajaj beat Nandit Passey 11-8, 11-7, 9-11, 11-9, 11-6 while Varun Jindal defeated Varun Anand 11-8, 11-7, 11-2, 11-7.

In the girls semi-finals Esha Monga beat Aanchal Batra 11-6, 11-9, 11-5, 11-8 while Sanya Sehgal beat Tina Khurana 13-11, 11-7, 11-3, 11-5.

Ratan Rawat shines with bat

A dashing knock of 92, with ten fours and two sixes, by wicket-keeper Ratan Rawat and deadly bowling by S K Soni (3 for 48) and Rajesh Sharma (3 for 16) helped Inborn Club beat York Club by 179 runs and entered the final of the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Ji Cricket Tournament on the Central Secretariat ground. Scores: Inborn Club: 262 for 6 in 30 overs (Ratan Rawat 92, Vivek Srivastava 67, Sachin Gupta 3 for 25, Arun Choudhary 3 for 21).
