Tribune News Service

New Delhi, April 19
The representatives of Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) today started their weeklong relay hunger strike at the office of the Vice-Chancellor office. The teachers alleged that they were on hunger strike to oppose the arbitrary functioning of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Deepak Nayyar. They further said that the VC, who has the mandatory duty to ensure observance of the provisions, statutes, ordinances and regulations, has been flouting those with impunity.

According to DUTA president Aditya Narayan Misra, “DUTA has prepared a white paper on violations of the rules by the VC.” He said that the latest audit report by the Director-General of Audit for Central Revenues show that the university was in financial mess.

Therefore, the DUTA was demanding institution of enquiry by the Visitor of University (President of India) into the functioning of the university as per the provisions in the DU Act, enacted by Parliament.

DUTA is also enraged at mistreatment to ad hoc teachers by the VC who has gone back on the report of his own committee, said Mr Misra.
