Workshop for pharmacy students

Ludhiana, April 17
The GGN Khalsa College of Pharmacy, Civil Lines, organised its annual interactive workshop ‘Impetus-2004’ here today.
The aim of the workshop was to acquaint the students with the latest trends in pharmaceutical industry, marketing principles, biotechnology-based drug therapies and insight into current legal fundamentals in drug laws. The chief guest was Mr Dinesh Gupta, Drug Inspector, Ludhiana. Mr Kuldip Singh, the Director of the college, presided over the function.

Mr Gupta advised the students to work hard and told them about the current systems in drug legislations. Dr Satinder Pal Sangha, Professor of Veterinary Biochemistry, College of Veterinary Sciences, Punjab Agricultural University, told the students about biotechnology and its applications in the manufacture of genetically engineered proteins and common drugs.

Mr Sanjeev Verma, Marketing Manager, Franklin Laboratories, told the students about the new approaches in customer relations. Ms Ravinder Dang, the head of the college, also spoke.

Quiz contest for students

Ludhiana, April 17
Students from five city schools participated in a zonal-level quiz competition organised at BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, by Cremica Foods here today.

The participating teams included those from the host school, Saraswati Modern School, Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School at BRS Nagar, DRV DAV School at Phillaur and St Joseph Convent School at Phillaur.

For the students of junior category, there were three rounds named highest bidder round, clue round and buzzer round. The senior category had three rounds ‘Health in your hands’, ‘Healthy brain round’ and a buzzer round.

In the first category, the team of Shweta, Ritika and Harshi representing DRV DAV Public School, Phillaur, won the first prize. Second prize went to the team of Shray, Eeman and Samridh representing Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School at BRS Nagar. Third prize went to the host team with Jasreman, Shubra and Jaskirat as its members.

In the second category, Saraswati Modern School team represented by Nitish and Silky won the first prize. Second prize went to the team of Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School with Vivek, Prabsimran and Mayuri as members. Third prize went to the host team with Mandhir, Shruti and Rajan as members.

Engineering college fest

Ludhiana, April 17
Contests for play, face painting, model display, creative writing and many other techno-cultural items were held on the second day of the three-day festival, Genesis-2004, organised at Guru Nanak Engineering College (GNEC) here today.

The programme was presided over by Dr S.K. Salwan, Vice-Chancellor of Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar, and guest of honour was Dr Pardeep Kumar, Professor at IIT, Roorkee. Eminent Dr R.P. Singh Suker Chakia, Principal, appreciated the performance of students from different colleges.

In play, the host team won the first prize. The team from IET, Bhaddal, stood second while that of CEM, Kapurthala, was declared third. In paper presentation, the host teams clinched the first and second prizes. In dumbcharades, the host teams won first and third prizes, while that from the Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology (GNIMT), Ludhiana, was declared second. In face painting, the team from the Punjab College of Engineering and Technology stood first, followed by the host team and CPM, Kapurthala. In ‘just a minute’, the GNIMT team stood first, followed by the DAV Institute of Engineering and Technology (DAVIET), Jalandhar, and the host teams.

In poetry recitation, Chetan Grover from the CEM, Kapurthala stood first, followed by Puneet Sareen from the GNEC and Gurpinder from the GNEC. In model display, Prabhjot Singh of GNEC was first, followed by Ravjot Kaur and Kinsuk Kumar of the GNEC, and Aman Bansal and Ravinder Singh from the SBSCET, Ferozepore.

Jaagriti gets best speaker award

The atmosphere was charged with excitement as authorities of Kundan Vidya Mandir, Civil Lines, declared their best artistes during the second day of the prize distribution function here today.

The function was presided over by Dr Harbans Singh, former Principal of the Khalsa College for Boys, Amritsar. After inspecting a guard of honour, the chief guest was accorded a floral welcome by members of the school managing committee and school Principal.

The Principal, Ms Neena Khanna, welcomed the parents and guests of honour. She highlighted the achievements of the students in the past one year. The function began with ‘Saraswati Vandana’. A glimpse of sad and tragic memories of Partition was presented through an action song by students of primary section.

Tiny tots of kindergarten left everyone spellbound with their rhymes.The action song ‘Jo tum chaho, voh mein kar doon’ received rich accolades. Fancy dress presentation was the cynosure of all eyes. The show ended with popular Punjabi folk dance, giddha.

The prize winners on the occasion included Jaagriti of Class XII as best speaker, Richa Kalra of Class XII as best dancer, Reema Khurana of Class XII as best singer and Ritika Sood of Class XII as best artist. Ankush Lamba of Class XII was declared all round best student of senior section. Among the middle section students, Palak Goyal of Class VIII was declared the best.

All round best student award from the primary section went to Upasana Sharma of Class V. ‘Star of the year’ from UKG was shared by Diksha Jain and Soham Mittal. ‘Star of the year’ from LKG was won by Muskan Singh.

Paper-reading contest on IT

Ludhiana, April 17
A paper-reading contest on information technology was organised at Punjab Institute of Management and Technology (PIMT), Mandi Gobindgarh, today in which students of MBA, MCA and BCA presented their papers.

The students chose various topics like artificial intelligence, e-business, e-governance, efficiency through computerisation, ‘IT sector- Is India in the right directions’ and ‘Computerisation and business’. Navneet Soni of MCA fourth semester, Puneet Monga of MBA fourth semester, Meenu Gill of MBA fourth semester, Inderjot Kaur of MBA second semester and Ruchika Jain of MBA second semester were awarded certificates for being outstanding performers.

Mr Ranjeev Chopra Coordinator, Department of Computer Applications, described the emergence of IT sector in India as a big success. He said that with companies like Infosys and Wipro scaling more and more heights each year, the IT industry could become a flag-bearer in Indian industrial scenario in the times to come.

Mr Harpreet Singh Coordinator, Corporate Relations, spoke on the occasion. Dr O.P. Sahni, Director of PIMT, appreciated the performance of the students.

Inter-school art exhibition opens

Ludhiana, April 17
In order to promote art and culture in Ludhiana, Camlin in association with TAC Art Gallery today opened a week-long inter-school art exhibition here today.
The purpose was to encourage the schoolchildren to develop and inculcate artistic ability in them. The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr M.S. Seekree, Director, Khalsa Institute of Management and Technology, Civil Lines.

More than 10 schools of the city are taking part in the exhibition. The competition was open in three categories, junior, middle and senior classes. Each category had three awards and three consolation prizes. Schoolchildren from various schools got an opportunity to interact and glance at the works of other students. The exhibition will remain open till April 23.
