GHPS annex Ajit Singh Hockey Gold Cup

New Delhi, April 13
Guru Harkrishan Public School (GHPS), India Gate pulled off an exciting 1-0 victory over Lyallpur Khalsa School, Jalandhar to annex the second Sahibzada Ajit Singh Gold Cup Hockey Tournament, organised by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, at the Shivaji Stadium on Tuesday. The match-winner was slotted in by Rajesh Yadav in the 10th minute, off a penalty corner.

In a fast-paced match, GHPS thwarted the mounting pressure of Lyallapur and converted one of their three penalty corners to emerge victorious.

The Lyallpur Khalsa School earned 9 penalty corners, but failed to convert any. Khalsa College Senior Secondary School, Amritsar finished third.

The India Gate school pocketed a cash prize of Rs 60,000 while Lyallpur were awarded Rs 40,000. Khalsa College were richer by Rs 30,000.

Four players—Shakti Singh of GHPS, India Gate (best goal keeper), Kulbhushan Sharma of India Gate (best full back), Jagdeep Kumar of Khalsa School, Amritsar (best half back) and Jalwinder Singh of Lyallpur (best forward)—were given a cash prize of Rs 5,000 each.h.

Delhi Police Commissioner K K Paul gave away the prizes. President of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee Prehlad Singh Chandhok was also present. Children of GHPS, Vasant Vihar, performed an enchanting cultural item.

Bal Bharati School sail into semi-final

New Delhi, April 13
An all-round display by Shubham Gupta (47 and 4 for 9) and a quickfire 32 by Abhisekh Raman helped Bal Bharati School, Pitampura defeat Gyan Bharati School, Saket by six wickets and entered the semi-final of the second Pankaj Jain Under-14 Inter-School Cricket Tournament at the Bal Bharati School ground, Pitampura.

Shubham was named the man of the match.Bal Bharti School scored 153 for 4 in 25 overs.

Scores: Gyan Bharati: 152 for 9 in 30 overs (Charanjeet Singh 58, Abhishek Choudhary 34, Abhisekh Malik 54, Shubham Gupta 4 for 9, Nikhil Sethi 3 for 10).

Bal Bharati School: 153 for 4 in 25 overs (Abhisekh Rama 32, Shubham Gupta 47, Utshav 31 n o, Unkul 2 for 23).

Ankit, Nitin shine

Ankit (79) and Nitin Sehgal (54) hit half centuries to help Champion Club defeat AEPC by seven runs in the fifth Maharaja Ranjit Singhji Cricket Tournament at the Vinay Marg ground.

Scores: Champion Club: 210 for 7 in 30 overs (Ankit Kumar 79, Nitin Sehgal 54, Harsh 3 for 40). AEPC: 203 for 7 in 30 overs (Sanjeev Rana 87, Joginder Singh 52, Ajay Kumar 2 for 1).

Akhil, Ankit star in title win

Deadly bowling by Akhil Goyal (6 for 29) and a strokeful century by Ankit Dabas (105, 15x4, 4x6) helped Ramakant Achrekar Cricket Foundation defeat Friends Club by 48 runs in the final of the Jayanti Devi Under-15 Cricket Tournament at the Paschim Vihar Sports Complex ground.

Ankit was adjudged the best batsman, Akhil the best bowler and Sandeep Kaushik the best-all rounder. Dronacharya coach Ramakant Achrekar distributed the prizes.

Scores: Achrekar Foundation: 315 for 7 in 50 overs (Ankit Dabas 105, Tushar Gupta 88, Sandeep 42, Abhishek 37, Sandeep Tomar 3 for 31, Arun Bhat 3 for 43).

Friends Sports: 267 all out in 49 overs (Saurav Nagpal 61, Maninder Singh 61, Arun 42, Akhil Goyal 6 for 29, Agren Sood 2 for 31, Parteek Kaushik 2 for 19).

ICICI Bank enter final

ICICI Bank defeated Teri by seven wickets and entered the final of the Teri Cup Cricket Tournament at the Teri Oval.

Scores: Teri: 119 all out in 21.4 overs (K P Eashwar 26, Mahesh Chand 25, T P Sankar 24, Vikas Prasad 4 for 30, Rohit 3 for 2).

ICICI Bank: 122 for 3 in 21.3 overs (Jitender Dewan 47 n o, Ramakrishna Raju 1 for 15).

Vikaspuri Coaching Centre lift U-17 cricket title

New Delhi, April 13
An all-round display by Pradeep Sangwan (32 n o and 4 for 41) and a dashing half century by Shashi Kant Talan helped Vikaspuri Coaching Centre defeat R P Academy by 10 runs to annex the inaugural R C Sharma Memorial Under-17 Cricket Tournament at the Vikaspuri ground.

Nitin Saini (R P Academy) was named the best batsman while Kartikey Bhatia of R R Gymkhana got the best bowler award, Priyan Tehlan received the man of the tournament award. Virender Sehwag’s coach Amar Nath Sharma gave away the prizes.

Scores: Vikaspuri: 192 for 7 in 40 overs (Shashi Kant Tehlan 56, Pradeep Sangwan 32 n o, Vipin Rawat 30, Afroz Masih 3 for 32).

R P Academy: 182 for 8 in 40 overs (Sandeep Tyagi 46 n o, Mohd Kaif 31, Pradeep Sangwan 4 for 41, Sanjay Sharma 3 for 24).

Sonu Vaid shines

An all-round display by Sonu Vaid (3 for 32 and 52 n o) and penetrative bowling by Pramod Bhati (3 for 25) helped Rajdhani Sports defeat Sriniwaspuri Club by eight wickets and entered the quarter-final of the fifth ARBDM Cricket Tournament at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Sonu Vaid was named the man of the match.

Scores: Sriniwaspuri Club: 134 all out in 32.4 overs (Manoj Kumar 39, Jitender Kumar 36, Pramod Bhati 3 for 25, Sonu Vaid 3 for 32, Ramit Gill 2 for 16).

Rajdhani Sports: 135 for 2 in 24 overs (Sonu Vaid 54 n o, Ramit Gill 35 n o, Ravi Yadav 23).

Goswami cricket

The 31st Goswami Ganesh Dutt Memorial Cricket Tournament will be held from May 9. The matches will be played at the SGTB Khalsa College ground. The final will be played on May 30.
