Workshop for farmers held

Ludhiana, April 13
To make agriculture in Punjab more profitable and competitive, an agriculture workshop on zero-tillage technique was organised by scientists of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) at Gurusar Kaonke village, Jagraon, here today.

Presiding over the function, Dr G.S. Nanda, Director, Research, PAU, exhorted farmers to adopt this technology. With this technique, farmers in Punjab could save as much as Rs 50 crore, he said. He urged the farmers to send a feedback on various problems to the PAU scientists for suitable solutions.

Dr G.S. Chahal, Additional Director of Research, PAU, appreciated efforts of the farmers of the village in adopting zero tillage on 80 per cent of area under farming.

Baisakhi celebrated in schools

Ludhiana, April 13
Baisakhi was celebrated with fervour and enthusiasm in Spring Dale Senior Secondary School, Green Land Senior Secondary Public School and Mom’s Pride Nursery School here today.

At Spring Dale School, the celebrations began with shabad singing by girls of Classes X and plus one. This was followed by speeches delivered by Gurpreet Kalsi of plus two, Shruti of plus two, Anirudh of plus one, Vanika Puri of Class VII, Parneet Kaur of Class X and Sakshi of Class X. Students spoke on foundation of Khalsa Panth, Jallianwala Bagh massacre and harvesting of wheat by farmers in the state.

On the occasion, Ramandeep and group sung a bhajan. A group song was presented by Silvi Kalia and her team a gidha by Manroop and her group and a dance item on Punjabi pop songs by Gagandeep and her team. Addressing the students, Ms Avinash Kaur Walia, Director of the school, said the festival conveyed the message of cooperation, unity and courage.

Baisakhi was celebrated at Green Land School with enthusiasm. Mr Pritpal Singh Pali, president of Gurdwara Dukh Niwaran Sahib, was the chief guest. Students delivered inspiring speeches on teachings and life of Guru Gobind Singh. Mr Rajesh Rudhra, chairman, Ms Baldeep Pandher, Principal, Mr Vijay Danav, Mr Rajesh Jain and Mr Ravi Kalra, members of the managing committee, were present on the occasion.

As its first function, the newly opened Mom’s Pride Nursery School held Baisakhi celebrations. Children came dressed up in traditional dressed and performed gidha and bhangra. Ms Sonia Narula, Principal, told them about the importance of the day.
