Widespread rain in J&K

New Delhi, April 9
Rainfall: Rain and thundershowers occurred today at many places in Jammu and Kashmir, at a few places in Uttaranchal and isolated places in Himachal Pradesh and east Rajasthan. It was mainly dry in the rest of the region. The chief amounts of rainfall in cm are: Jammu and Kashmir — Pahalgam 4, Quazigund and Srinagar 3 each and Banihal 1.

Temperatures: During the past 24 hours maximum temperatures fell appreciably in Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir and west Uttar Pradesh, fell in Punjab, east Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal and changed little elsewhere. Departure: This was appreciably above normal in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Rajasthan, above normal in Haryana and normal in the rest of the region. The highest temperature in the region was 41.8°C recorded at Churu (Rajasthan).

Forecast valid till the morning of April 11: Rain/thundershower is likely at a few places in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttaranchal and at isolated places in Punjab. Isolated duststorms/thunderstorms are likely in Haryana, north Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. It will be mainly dry in south Rajasthan.

Forecast for Delhi and neighbourhood valid till the morning of April 11: Partly cloudy with possibility of thundery development accompanied with squall in a few areas. Maximum temperature will be around 38°C.

Farmers’ weather bulletin for Delhi—forecast valid till the morning of April 11: Development of thunderclouds is likely at a few places.

Squalls with wind speed exceeding 65 km/h are likely at isolated places.

High-velocity winds, rain lash HP

Shimla, April 9
The capital resort and its surrounding areas were lashed by high-velocity winds and rain today evening.
The higher reaches in the Lahaul and Spiti valley had fresh snowfall. A report from Kulu said the area had rainfall while there was mild snowfall at the Rohtang Pass.

There were reports of rain and hail from various places in the state, including Kangra.

The headquarter town recorded a rainfall of 0.5 mm while Sundernagar recorded 0.2 mm and Bhuntar in Kulu district recorded 3 mm of rain.The maximum temperatures remained more or less the same at all three places.

The weather office has predicted more rains in the state in the next 24 hours.

Palampur and its surrounding areas in Kangra district were hit by a squall, followed by showers while the Dhauladhar ranges had fresh snowfall. The higher altitude areas and other high mountain passes also experienced mild snowfall, reports reaching here said.

HAMIRPUR: After a long dry spell various parts of Hamirpur district had heavy rain on Friday. It was accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms. Reports from interiors of the district stated that the areas were lashed by hailsstorms, which caused heavy damage to the wheat crop.
