Manmohan has a word of caution for Congmen

His party has not formally declared his nomination to contest the Lok Sabha election from the South Delhi parliamentary constituency but RK Anand, the lawyer-turned-Jharkhand Mukti Morcha’s (JMM’s) member in the Rajya Sabha who joined the Congress in 2001, has begun his campaign in right earnest.

Fake visa racket in CP busted 
New Delhi, April 9
With the arrest of eight persons the New Delhi district police claimed to have busted an organised fake visa racket run by some travel agents in the Connaught Place area besides busting a full-fledged fake visa manufacturing unit in Vishnu Garden, Khyala.

Murderer of 3-year-old may be involved in yet another killing

The arrest of the alleged accused, Surender, of village Farmana for the murder of three-year-old boy Ojaswi of the same village has not only shocked and angered his family members and villagers, but the police have also started suspecting his involvement in the abduction and murder of another youth, Ramesh, of the same village on July 2, 2002, whose body was recovered from the fields after three days.

Delhiites got a respite from heat today as light showers lashed the Capital in the afternoon, bringing down the temperature substantially. The horizon turned cloudy at around noon and a few hours later rain, accompanied with strong winds, cooled the Capital.

Aged metal merchant stabbed to death
Rewari , April 9
Mr. Pooran Chand Jindal, a septuagenarian metal merchant and noted social activist of the town, was stabbed to death by some armed gangsters at his residence in Mohalla Kayasthwara last night.

Student told to pay cop Rs 55,000 for breaking his hand
New Delhi, April 9
A student, who broke the hand of a Delhi Police Head Constable following a scuffle at the Dayal Singh College in October 2002, has been asked by a city court to pay Rs 55,000 to the cop.

BJP candidate urges EC to recommend Central rule in Haryana

Mr Kishan Singh Sangwan, a BJP candidate from Sonepat Lok Sabha seat and the spokesman of the Haryana BJP, today urged the Chief Election Commissioner to recommend the President’s rule in Haryana as Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala had defied the order regarding the shifting of Dr M. S. Malik, Director-General of Police (DGP), Haryana, from the post in view of his wife Mrs Krishan Malik is contesting the Lok Sabha elections on the ruling party Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) ticket from Sonepat.

BJP councillor demands special meeting of MCD

The BJP councillor, Mr Vijender Gupta, in a written letter to the Mayor, Mr Ashok Kumar Jain, demanded a special meeting of the corporation to finalise its stand on the issue of transferring the functions of the MCD as per the report of the Second Delhi Finance Commission. This demand was made after an order of the Lt-Governor for withdrawing of work on eight busy roads from the MCD to the Public Works Department of the NCT government of Delhi.

The civil society organisations, concerned civilians from Pakistan, former bonded child labourers and schoolchildren from Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA) and NGOs from India and Pakistan working for the elimination of child labour, organised a march ‘Peace for Children, Children for Peace’, in the Capital today. Hundreds of children and adults marched from Ambedkar Stadium to Rajghat where they paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi - the symbol of peace.

Youth stabbed to death by friend

One person was stabbed to death by his friend this morning in the Patel Nagar area in West district. The victim was identified as Rizan (22), resident of Prem Nagar, Patel Nagar, who used to work in a cloth shop along with his father in Prem Nagar.
