Course on farm machinery

Ludhiana, April 8
A three-day course on operation and management of farm equipment, organised by the training unit of the College of Agricultural Engineering, PAU, in collaboration with the Department of Farm Power and Machinery, concluded here today. The course was attended by 16 staff members from the Department of Agriculture.

The training was imparted on the operation, care/ maintenance, operational cost and management of tractors and agricultural machinery. A field visit was conducted to the agricultural machinery manufacturers and field demonstration of some latest farm machines like vegetable seedling transplanter, multicrop drill -cum-planter, pulveriser, latest maize thresher and forage harvester was also conducted.

Dr I.K. Garg, head, Department of Farm Power and Machinery, while speaking on the concluding function, asked the trainees to advise the farmers for judicious use of machinery so that operational cost can be reduced. Prof Kirpal Singh Saini, in charge training unit, and coordinator of the course, gave the details of various training programmes organised by training unit for officers, field staff and farmers.

Zonal health quiz contest

After conducting intra-school contests in many city schools, the Cremica Foods Ltd conducted its first zonal health quiz at Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School, Dugri Road, here today.

The teams that had won first positions in intra-school contests vied for the zonal-level competition. The students from Classes V to X participated in the quiz. The classes were categorised into two groups, first category with Classes V to VII and second one with students from Classes VIII to X.

In the first zonal-level competition held today, there were teams from the host school, Guru Nanak International Public School, Sri Atma Nand Jain School, Kendriya Vidyalaya of Baddowal and Joseph School. The teams from these schools competed with each other in both the categories.

All rounds and questions moved around the topics pertaining to health and personal hygiene. In the first category, there were three rounds titled ‘Highest bidder round’, ‘Clue round’ and ‘Buzzer round’. The quiz master, Mr Aditya Raj Kalia, was superb in conducting the quiz. He moulded the questions in an interesting and an educative framework.

The first prize winning team of the contest in the first category was that of Joseph School with Noorpreet, Amrit and Mohit as members. The second prize in the category was won by Kshitija, Akanksha and Tripti from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Baddowal.

The first prize winning team of the contest in the second category category was that of Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School with Jasmeen, Jasleen and Arshdeep as members. The second prize in the category was won by Amrit Pal, Simrat and Harpreet of Guru Nanak International Public School, Model Town.

Ms Sheena, Principal of the host school, congratulated the winning teams and wished them good luck for the final competition to be held soon.

Fancy dress show at KVM

The kindergarten section of Kundan Vidya Mandir looked colourful with little ones dressed up in mesmerising attires during a fancy dress competition held here today.
Kids came up dressed like various television and cinema characters like Jassi, Sonpari, Pokeman, Superman, Batman and Munna Bhai MBBS. There were others who came up dressed like netaji, sadhu, vegetable-seller, bangle seller and kabbadiwallah.

A team of judges finally selected 18 students for the final show to be held tomorrow. The selection was done on the basis of originality of ideas, dress and presentation. Those who have been selected include Ojasivi Jain, Surnima Poddar, Zephorah Gopalan, Parnav Bansal, Kashish Gupta, Muskaan Singh, Mahir Uppal, Shubham Jain and Ribhav Modi, all from UKG class, who came dressed up like peacock, blossom, “raddiwali”, painter, cigarette, Jassi, soldier, coolie and supermarket, respectively.

Six other students from the LKG class who have also been selected include Pragun Aggarwal, Vidhushi Jindal, Shruti Mahajan, Nistha Saggar, Vansh Sekri, Anvi Aggarwal, Riya Jain, Vinayak Malhotra, Saksham Sood and Sezal Bathla who acted like cricket ball, Ganesh Stuti, kite, tea pot, snowman, mosquito, fruit seller, Krishanji, steel girl and fairy, respectively.

School releases magazine

Ludhiana, April 8
A magazine release function was organised at Bhartiya Vidya Mandir, Udham Singh Nagar, today.
Ms Kusum Ahuja, Principal, Government College for Women, was the chief guest on the occasion. Scores of students were given prizes for their achievements in academics and co-curricular activities. Mr Mitter Sen and others members of the school management were also present on the occasion. OC
