Migrant labourer stripped, tortured
Ludhiana, March 26
Four persons, including a policeman, have been booked by the Sarabha Nagar police for the alleged torture of a migrant labourer, whom the accused suspected of stealing a wallet last night.

Two migrant labourers found dead
Khanna, March 26
The bodies of two migrant labourers were found at the Khanna grain market this morning. While one of the labourers was identified, the identification of the other had not been established.

Big haul of poppy husk
Ludhiana, March 26
The Jagraon police got a major breakthrough in its campaign against smugglers and bad elements when it recovered 30 bags of poppy husk on secret information which were being smuggled in a Tata 709 vehicle.

One booked in fraud case
Ludhiana, March 26
On a statement of Mr Mohan Vishkarma, a resident of Gobind Nagar at Bhammian Kalan Village, the Civil Lines police yesterday registered a case against Narinder Singh, a resident of Kishan Nagar on the Tajpur Road, under Section 468 of the IPC.

25 booked for forcibly occupying shop
Mandi Ahmedgarh, March 26
As many as 25 persons were booked under sections 457, 380, 427, 506, 148 and 149 of IPC and sections 25-27 of the Arms Act for allegedly forcibly taking the possession of a shop and removing materials from it. The police has arrested six of them and impounded four vehicles used in this connection.

Rolls of honour on college students

Akhand Path in memory of martyr
Ludhiana, March 26
The Punjab Agricultural University Students’ Union organised an akhand path in the memory of Lt Thakur Triveni Singh, a former student on Friday. Lieutenant Triveni had attained martyrdom while fighting terrorists at Jammu Railway Station in December, 2003.

Murder accused acquitted
Ludhiana, March 26
Mr Baldev Singh, Sessions Judge, Ludhiana, has acquitted Jatinder Kumar, alias Lucky, of Ghatti Mohalla and Amit Kumar of Gulchaman Gali, in the murder case of Balwinder Singh, finding the statement of alleged eye-witness to be full of inconsistencies.

CMC to start juvenile  diabetic club
Ludhiana, March 26
Keeping in view a large number of children suffering from diabetes, the Department of Medicine at Christian Medical College and Hospital has decided to start a juvenile diabetic club.
