Rs 1.22 cr for better power supply in Mohali
Kulwinder Sangha

Mohali, March 25
To provide better power supply to residents of the town as well as to the industrial sector here, the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) has augmented the system at a cost of about Rs 1.22 crore. Apart from this augmentation, another scheme to improve the 11 kv distribution system at a cost of Rs 6 crore is also in the pipeline.

A new 66 kv grid substation has been constructed in the industrial area. The board has also installed five additional 100 kva transformers and one 63 kva transformer in different parts of the town to improve the power supply. The capacity of eight transformers has been increased by double, apart from increasing the wire size of certain 11 kv lines.

The 66 kv grid substation has been constructed in Phase VIII-B, Industrial Area, at a cost of Rs 1 crore. The capacity of this grid is 20 mva. It will help in improving the power supply to Industrial Phases VII, VIII and VIII-B.

The existing 66 kv grid substation in Industrial Area Phase VII at present is fully loaded. It had become difficult for the power board to release new connections.

Mr K.S. Sidhu, Additional Superintending Engineer, Special Division, told Chandigarh Tribune yesterday that the new grid was likely to be commissioned tomorrow by Mr Y.S. Ratra, Chairman of the board. He said with the functioning of the new grid, the voltage in the area would improve and breakdowns would be minimised. The board would now be able to release new connections to the industrial sector.

In the residential Phases 2 and 3-A, one additional 100 kva transformer has been installed and four transformers have been upgraded from 100 kva to 200 kva at a cost of Rs 5.50 lakh. Similarly, one additional transformer of 100 kva has been installed in Phase III B1 and IIIB2. As many as three 100 kva transformers have been upgraded to the level of 200 kva. The total amount spent on upgrading the power system in these two phases is Rs 4.50 lakh.

Three additional transformers having a capacity of 100 kva each and another additional transformer of 63 kva have been installed in Phases IV, V, VII, X and XI. One transformer has been upgraded from 100 kva to 200 kva. The amount spent by the board in this regard has been over Rs 4.50 lakh.

Mr Sidhu said the board had upgraded the wire size of four 11 kv lines so that they were able to take more load. A sum of Rs 8 lakh had been spent on increasing the wire size.
