Punjab to appoint 700 doctors on contract
Faridkot, March 22
The Punjab Government will appoint nearly 700 doctors on contract basis to fill the vacant posts in the three state medical colleges located at Amritsar, Faridkot and Patiala. The memorandum in this connection was already cleared by the state Cabinet during its meeting held at Chandigarh last month.

Life term for four in murder case

A local court here has sentenced four youths to life imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 each in a murder case of another youth.

Doctor convicted of seeking bribe
Patiala, March 22
A doctor of the local Government Medical College, who demanded a bribe of Rs 1,000 to release a post-mortem report but settled for Rs 600, was today convicted by a local court, which sentenced him a two-year imprisonment.

Agriculture experts said today the experiment with diversification was not succeeding in Punjab because research in the field had not been able to give any viable alternative to replace the current wheat - paddy cycle.

10 held in raids

During surprise raids in the Kotwali, Barnala, Dhanaula and Shehna police station areas the police apprehended 10 persons and seized 60 bottles of illicit country-made liquor, 14 kg of poppy husk, Rs 1800 and 300 gm of opium.
