House session advanced for cricket buffs

The Delhi Legislative Assembly will meet on Wednesday for a two-day session to pass the Vote on Account. The session has been advanced by four hours on Wednesday to enable the legislators to watch the fifth and final one-day international match between India and Pakistan on television.

Aged couple battered to death
Rewari, March 22
An aged couple, Matadin Thekedar (70) and his wife Bhagwati Devi (65), were brutally killed with sharp-edged weapons by unidentified assailants in Manethi village, about 23 km from here last night. The Khol Police have registered a case of murder.

Sahib Singh denies manhandling minister’s son
New Delhi, March 22
Union Labour Minister and BJP’s candidate from the Outer Delhi constituency, Mr Sahib Singh Verma, has denied manhandling the son of a minister in the Government of NCT of Delhi and ridiculed the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) for resorting to ‘shameful’ and ‘cheap’ tactics in the run-up to the Lok Sabha election.

Mr Sahib Singh Verma has alleged that it was Mr Chauhan’s goons who had manhandled him and his supporters.

Deadlock over measures to check din generated by generators

A stand-off seems to have emerged between the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) and the industrial units here on the issue of adopting measures to check noise pollution created by the diesel generating sets used by the latter. The HSPCB has served an ultimatum to the units to either put ‘acoustic enclosure’ on the diesel generating (DG) sets by March 31 this year or face a penalty ranging from Rs 10,000 to 20,000.

The experts have pointed out that occupational therapy helps in creating better jobs for disabled people. At a three-day conference EMCON ’04, organised by the All India Occupational Therapist’ Association (AIOTA), it was pointed out that for India’s six crores disabled people there are a mere 6,000 occupational therapists.

Two notorious criminals nabbed
New Delhi, March 22
The Inter-State Cell of the Crime Branch has arrested two notorious criminals of the dreaded Sanjay Bhutana alias Shamsher gang from the Bijwasan area of South-West district. The sleuths also claimed to have recovered one countrymade weapon and two live cartridges from their possession.
