Delhi Police crush CWC in DDCA League

New Delhi, March 21
An unbeaten knock of 78 by Anil Rana and deadly bowling by Sune Singh (3 for 12) helped Delhi Police defeat Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) by ten wickets in a Super A Division match of the DDCA League at the University ground.

Scores: CWC: 127 all out in 27.4 overs (Harpreet Singh 44 n o, Sune Singh 3 for 12, Rajesh Sharma 3 for 19). Delhi Police: 128 for no loss in 15.1 overs (Anil Rana 78 n o, Harvinder Singh 35 n o).

Food Corporation of India (FCI) defeated Daryaganj by 41 runs in a Super A Division match the Mohan Meakin ground.

Scores: FCI: 276 for 8 in 40 overs (Rajender Bisht 70, Paras Dogra 70, Naveen Negi 53, Kapil Mehta 3 for 51, Raju Grewal 2 for 39).

Darya Ganj Gymkhana: 235 for 7 in 40 overs (Pramod Bhati 80, Jagdish Allah 35, Ashish Sharma 35, Yogesh Sachdeva 2 for 43).

Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) beat Kishan Ganj Gymkhana by two wickets in an A-I Division match at the Yamuna Sports Complex ground.

Scores: Kishan Ganj: 195 all out 40 overs (Udit Kumar 82, Suresh Baniwal 2 for 40).

MCD: 199 for 8 in 38.4 overs (Pankaj Malik 49, John Anthony 47, Gajender Singh 2 for 20, Jigesh Gogia 2 for 30). State Bank of India (SBI) defeated Hind Club by 73 runs in an A-I Division match at the Yamuna Sports Complex ground.

Scores: SBI: 216 for 8 in 30 overs (Pankaj Kaushik 57, Ravinder Bhandari 47, Rajan Rana 2 for 19).

Hind Club: 143 all out in 26.4 overs (Ashok Kumar 23, Aditya Jain 22, Zeeshan Mohd 2 for 14, Mohsin Khan 2 for 20, Kunal Bhardwaj 2 for 31).

Prachar Academy win

Prachar Cricket Academy defeated Gyan Bharati South Delhi Academy by nine runs in a league match of the Mahender Kaushik Memorial Under-15 Cricket Tournament at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

Scores: Prachar Academy: 205 for 9 in 35 overs (Kaif Mohd 74,Rahul Yadav 31, Sachin Saraswat 25, Sunny Sehrawat 2 for 30, Naman Khanna 2 for 56).

Gyan Bharati: 196 for 8 in 35 overs (Varun Sudan 51, Sunny Sehrawat 26, Sachin Sarashwat 3 for 35).

Sahara to join hands with FIH to promote hockey

New Delhi, March 21
Sahara India, which sponsors the Indian hockey team, will soon expand its hockey horizon when it signs a three-year deal with the International Hockey Federation (FIH), to become the fourth global partner of the federation. The other three global partners of the FIH are BDO International, Rabobank and Samsung.

Sahara is expected to sign the deal with the FIH by the end of March, and once it comes through, Sahara will get the title rights and branding opportunities at major FIH tournaments, up to and including the men’s and women’s World Cup Championships in 2006.

The FIH, the supreme governing body of hockey, retains the overall responsibility for the game world wide, which includes the rules of hockey, umpiring, coaching, the global development and promotion of sport. It also possesses the rights for all world level hockey
competitions and to sanction and stage such sporting events.

As a partner of the FIH, Sahara would also enjoy prominent brand visibility in other major international tournaments like the World Cups, Champions Trophies, including the title rights of the men’s Champion Trophy of 2005 and 2006.

Mr Subroto Roy of Sahara said “we would do everything possible within our parameters to bring back the lost glory of this game, within our nation and internationally”.

He says Sahara has taken the responsibility of sponsoring the Indian Hockey Team as a passionate, long-term supporter and promoter of the national game, which has brought laurels to the country, on several occasions.

“The initiative of becoming a global partner of the FIH will be a step ahead in our pursuit to revive the golden days of Indian hockey, both nationally and internationally,” Mr Roy added.

ESPN Star retains English League rights

ESPN Star Sports has successfully extended its multi-year agreement with the FA Premier League of England to deliver full and exclusive broadcast rights of Asia’s most popular television sport, the English Premier League, to its major territories across Asia, till 2007.

With this, ESPN Staar Sports strengthens its most comprehensive coverage of international football in Asia, including EPL, Euro 2004, FA English Football Package, the Asian Football Confederation Package, the UEFA Champions League and the Spanish League.

Star also announced that it will double its coverage of the English Premier League over the next three seasons, starting August 2004. Ten matches will be shown each competition week, instead of the current 5, most of them live.

The rest will be on quick turnaround and will again be supported with a lineup of programming covering predictions, highlights, news and information, as well as pre and post game analysis.

The English Premier League remains the most widely distributed sports programme across Asia. It is seen in over 150 million homes on the ESPN Star Sports network, with 8 for the 10 people with cable in Asia tuning in weekly to watch the drama and excitement of EPL.

Good response to Paintal Cup Golf

New Delhi, March 21
Over 200 players teed off in the General Paintal Memorial Cup Golf Tournament held at the Army Golf Course on Sunday. Lt. Gen J. J. Singh, GOC-in-C, Western Command and patron of the Army Golf Course, unveiled a portrait of General Paintal inside the lounge in the presence of Mrs Paintal. Mrs Paintal did the ceremonial tee-off from Teen No 1 to formally inaugurate the tournament.

The prizes were distributed by Mrs Paintal at the Rajputana Rifles Regimental Centre Officer’s Mess.

U-15 Cricket Tourney
