Seminar on event management

Ludhiana, March 21
A seminar on event management , an upcoming industry, was organised at GGNIMT here yesterday. It was arranged by professionals from the Catalyst - a five -year- old industry in conceptualising event management. The main objective of this seminar was to make students aware of various aspects of this industry.

The Managing Director of the Catalyst, Mr Aditya Kalia, was present on the occasion. He spoke on the concept of event management and its links with advertisement. He further highlighted the scope of job opportunities in the industry.

Mr Kalia enlightened the students on advertisements, the mothers of event management, and gave views on other areas of advertisements like print media, electronic media, outdoor media and publicity ( public relation). He emphasised that the event management enables companies to reach their exact market aesthetically.

He further added that the event management starts form our homes and goes to big corporate exhibitions with multi- crores budget.

The seminar was followed by the pre-placement talk and three-tier recruitment process. The company is recruiting professionals from the college. In this process students were asked give micro-presentation. Group discussions and personal interviews were also organised.

Ludhiana, March 21
The Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology (GNIMT), Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana, organised a national seminar on “Career options in management and IT” here today.
Experts from various universities, institutes and industry participated in the seminar.

Many papers were presented during two technical sessions of the seminar to highlight the various career options available to aspirants. The chief guest on the occasion was Dr Prem Kumar, Head, Department of Business Management, Talwandi Sabo. Dr U.C. Pandey, Regional Director, IGNOU, presided over the forenoon session. Dr K. Chandra Sekharaiah of Jawahar Lal Technolgical University, Hyderabad, spoke on the main theme of the seminar.

Dr Prem Kumar delivered the keynote address. Speaking on the occasion, he highlighted the fact that choosing a career is a major milestone in one’s life. It is hence important that such a decision be made with extreme caution while taking into account one’s inherent strengths and environmental opportunities.

Dr U.C. Pandey spoke on “Career education programmes through distance education.”

Dr K. Chandra Sekharaiah spoke on “Synergy in management and IT — pathway to successful career.” Yogesh Verma, Promila Sahdev and Dimple Juneja from the Career Institute of Technology and Management, Faridabad, gave presentations on the topic ‘Management and IT education in the era of globalization.’

Besides this, career-counselling institutes like Top Careers and You (TCY) and Sethi Study Circle made their presentations.

Dr A.S. Bansal, Director, GNIMT, welcomed the distinguished guests, participants and audience.

Mother's Touch school organises annual function

A cultural programme was presented the children of Mother's Touch Kindergarten. The outgoing students were given farewell and prizes were distributed among children for their achievements throughout the year. Mr Jaspinder Singh Kolar, former Director Education Extension (PAU), was the chief guest.

Right from the entrance gates to seats, everything was draped in Rajasthani colours. Children presented Rajasthani and Punjabi folk dance and remixes, folk songs, and skits.

A special skit was also organised to depict the bad effects of junk foods on health. A few parents came up to share their experiences with the school. Grandparents were honoured for their cooperation.

Prizes and certificates were distributed among children by the chief guest.

MGM school: KG block of MGM Public School, inspired by the pious spirit of Ma Gurkaur, was inaugurated today with the promise of exploring the nascent potentialities of the child.

Dr S.S. Johal, Vice- Chairman, Punjab Planning Board, along with Mr Gajjan Singh Thind, Chairman of the Trust, lighted the ceremonial lamp. School's Principal Rebecca Phillips, said her vision was to create a democratic environment. It can only be realised with the active participation of parents, pupils and teachers.

Not only the children but also the parents were happy to be a part of the MGM family. The parents were also apprised of the methodologies of teaching.

The school, spread in 5 acres of prime land, will provide modern facilities like - the state-of-art computer room, a well-equipped Teacher's Resource Center and a library, activity room with audio-vidual aids. Laboratories with the latest apparatus, a conference room, play ground along with a skating rink, aesthetically designed music and dance rooms, intercom communications, a spacious hall, school transpoter, sports room, sick bay, book shop, cafeteria would be the main features of this ultra- modern school

Celebrations: Students of Bharatiya Vidya Mandir, Kitchlu Nagar, started a 'Road March' from the school premises to make the people of the city aware of the New Year according to Indian calendar. They went through areas like Kitchlu Nagar, Rishi Nagar and Haibowal Khurd. Havan was performed on the school premises and "parsad" distributed. Mr Mitter Sain, president, BVM Trust, and other members of the Trust and Management were also present on the occasion.

Beautiful tableaus were also shown at different corners of roads. People were seen appreciating the efforts of the students to make the people aware of the rich culture of India.

BVM Senior Secondary School, Udham Singh Nagar, celebrated the anniversary of the creation of 'Lord Brahma' and initiation of the Vikrami Samvat by Maharaja Vikramditya, the day is also auspicious for the events like the foundation of Arya Samaj by Maharishi Dayanand and Raj Tilak of Lord Rama. The day is also known for the birthday of the founder of RSS, Dr Keshav Rao Baliram Hedgevarji and Lord Jhulalal. On this day commences a festival of Navratras. The students of BVM classes conveyed their message through songs and slogans while passing through different parts of city.

Similarly, students of BVM, Chandigarh Road, celebrated the day by taking out the tableus.

Samrala
MAM school:
Tiny tots of MAM Public School presented a mix of western and folk dances to mark their annual day celebrations here yesterday.

Besides dances, the students also participated in fancy dress competition in a mock fashion show.

Col Raminder Singh (retd), former Director of Sports, Punjab, appreciated the innovative teaching methods used by the staff in this rural school. He also lauded the facilities being provided in the sports academies being run on the school premises.

Mr Devinder Singh Benepal, coordinator of the school, said soon the school would start a cricket academy for talented youngsters of rural areas. Ms Jasjot Kaur Dhillon, Principal, highlighted the achievements of the school.

Col Raminder Singh and former international hockey player Sukhvir Singh Grewal were felicitated.

Malwa college students get degrees

Ludhiana, March 21
The Malwa Central College of Education for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, organised its 47th annual convocation yesterday.
About 250 BEd and 25 MEd students were awarded degrees at the function. Dr S.S. Johl, Deputy Chairman, State Planning Commission, Government of Punjab, presided over the function.

Sonika Katyal got the Roll of Honour for standing first in the MEd examination of Panjab University. Rakhi Batta was honoured for her performance in the BEd examination of the university.

More than 65 prizes and 16 medal were given to students for their achievements in various subjects and fields. Dr Ravinder Kaur, Principal of the college, presented the annual report and highlighted the achievements of the college.

Colleges hold joint convocation

The GHGH College of Education for Women and the Khalsa College for Women, Sidhwan Khurd, organised a joint convocation. Dr Nisha Sarad, DPI, Colleges, was the chief guest. Dr Rajwant Kaur welcomed the chief guest. Dr Sarad congratulated the management, Principal and students for the role played by these rural institutions. She exalted the students to achieve great academic and moral heights by hard work, perseverance and sincerity.

Degrees were conferred on 11 M. Ed, 196 B. Ed, 34 MA, 177 BA and 12 B.Com scholars. College Roll of Honour was awarded to Manpreet Kaur for securing 5th position in Panjab University B.Ed examination. Navneet Kaur of B.Sc I was adjudged meritorious student. Bibi Bhan Kaur Model for divinity was awarded to Gurpreet Kaur of BA II . Bibi Bhan Kaur award for Punjabi was awarded to Manjinder Kaur of BA II. Manpreet Kaur and Devinder Kaur were adjudged best NCC cadets. Prizes were given by Dr Sarad to M.Ed and B. Ed students for their academic achievements.

School opened in Khanpur village

Dr Bhagat Singh, former Vice-Chancellor, Panjabi University, Patiala, and DPI (Colleges), has blamed education system for instability in all the sections of society.
While talking to this correspondent after addressing a gathering on the inauguration of Sarvodya International School at Khanpur village, he said only honesty in education could save the nation.

Reacting to the recent question paper leak issue, Dr Bhagat Singh said, “Though almost all departments, except education, were already corrupt, teachers are no exception to it now.”
