: As many as 300 students were conferred upon graduate degrees today at R. R. Bawa DAV College for Girls, here. Mr D. R. Gupta, Director, Colleges, DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi, delivered the convocation address. Mr D. R. Gupta delivered the presidential speech. Principal Veena Watni presented vote of thanks.

DOWRY CASE REGISTERED: On the complaint of Narinder Kaur, daughter of Bawa Singh of Bhungarni, the police here has registered a case under Sections 298-A and 34 of the IPC against her husband, Surjit Singh, and father-in-law, Daulat Singh, of Lasara village, on Wednesday for demanding more dowry.

BEREAVED: Mrs Inderjit Kaur (64) a noted social worker and wife of senior advocate Harcharan Singh died on Thursday following cardiac arrest in a private hospital in Ludhiana. She was the younger sister of Dr Jasbir Singh Ahluwalia, a former Vice-Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala. Her cremation took place on Friday in Shalamar garden.

Manhandled
: A worker of the Indian Public Health Department was manhandled by villagers at Kalth near Bhojnagar. According to a complaint with the Bhojnagar police post on Wednesday Ganshayam a pump operator at Kalth village alleged that on Tuesday three villagers blamed him for not supplying water properly and slapped him.

Fair Price Shop
: Deputy Commissioner M. L. Sharma said on Thursday that fare price shop in the district would open in summer from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and in winter from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Shops will remain closed on every Tuesday. The DC added that action would be taken against the depot holders who would not lift foodgrains under the Mid-Day-Meal Scheme.

Accident: A Private bus (HP-17-5895) on its way to Paonta Sahib from Shimla overturned near Banethi, 17 km from here on Thursday. Five persons were injured, one of them seriously. The injured persons were brought to Nahan district hospital. All have been stated to be out of danger.
