Kisan mela at Ballowal Saunkhri begins today Ludhiana, March 9 Dr Amrik Singh Sandhu, Director, Extension Education, said keeping in view the needs of the area, the farmers would be encouraged for diversification of crops and self-marketing. The farmers would be told about scientific techniques relating to the use of water resources, bee-keeping, cultivation of medicinal plants and dairy farming. Dr Jasbir Singh Samra, Director, Seeds, said 65 quintal seed of new varieties of rice would be put on sale. Besides, maize, moong, arhar, soybean, bajra and vegetable seeds would also be available. He said the farmers had purchased seeds worth Rs 31.5 lakh during the mela at PAU on March 4 and 5. Besides, the Center for Communication, Languages and Culture had sold literature related agriculture worth Rs 2.1 lakh during the mela. Dr Sandhu said the mela to be held at KVK Rauni (Patiala) on March 12 would be inaugurated by Dr B.C. Gupta, Finance Commissioner, Punjab, and presided over by Dr Kirpal Singh Aulakh. The melas at Bathinda and Gurdaspur would be held on March 18 and March 25, respectively. Stalls for the sale of seeds and agricultural literature would also be put up. The farmers would also have the facility to deposit subscription money for monthly magazines. Animal husbandry, agricultural machinery and home science experts would also be present during these events to listen to the problems faced by farmers. |
Prize distribution function at Guru Nanak College Ludhiana, March 9 The function began with a 'shabad gayan' by students of the college. As many as 205 students of arts and commerce were awarded prizes. Harpreet and Kulwinder of BA I were honoured for being the outstanding athletes of the year in Panjab University and best athletes of the college, respectively. As a part of the International Women’s Day celebrations the college honoured Ms Kulwant Kaur Virdi, retired Principal of Guru Nanak Public School, Ms Kuldip Kaur, former Principal of Master Tara Singh Memorial College for Women, Ms Nirmal Rishi, retired lecturer of Khalsa College for Women, who is known for her contribution to Punjabi theatre and plays. Ms Poonam Panesar of B.Com I spoke on ‘Nari shakti’. Ms Shweta Verma, wife of the Deputy Commissioner, was the guest of honour on the occasion. A cultural programme comprising songs, ghazals and histrionics was presented by the students. The function concluded with gidha. Prof Gurbir Singh Sarna, secretary of the managing committee, extended a vote of thanks to the guests. |
Ronu Majumdar regales audience
at PCTE Ludhiana, March 9 The function was attended by 400 students, faculty members and about 50 guests. Pandit Majumdar performed for more than two hours. Pandit Majumdar of Maihar gharana was born in Varanasi. This "gharana" has produced eminent musicians like Pandit Ravi Shankar and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. He has also won prestigious ‘Aditya Vikram Birla Award’ for his dedication to music. "The Pandit Majumdar's performance has enlivened the spirit of culture and heritage among youth’’, remarked Dr K.N.S. Kang, Director of PCTE, on the occasion. |
Workshop for NTT students Ludhiana, March 9 Various activities were arranged for the students such as drawing 20 items with the help of two parallel lines. She stressed on the need of creativity at the level of pre-primary education. She said activities must be planned according to age, need and interest of the students. The workshop came to an end with a vote of thanks by Ms Anjali, a lecturer of the same college. Ms Bhupinder, Ms Sandhya and Ms Babita were also present on the occasion. |
Workshop on personality development Ludhiana, March 9 Nearly 100 students of the BCA and BBA courses participated in the workshop. The resource person on the occasion was Mr Harpreet Singh from the Punjab Institute of Management and Technology (PIMT), Mandi Gobindgarh. He said one must develop a personality in tune with one’s profession. “Reasonable emotions, team spirit, purity of thoughts and stimulation from social circle promote one’s personality to the required height,” he said. Mr Harpreet said the charisma of personality ensured success in one’s life. He told the students about certain techniques to evaluate their personality and to upgrade it. Ms Dilmeet Kaur, director of the institute, said technical education was incomplete without a shining personality. The workshop was followed by an interactive session between students and faculty members. They discussed the relative significance of luck, hard work and meditation in personality development.
