Teachers to hold dharna
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, March 8
The Punjab Government College Teachers Association (GCTA) will hold a dharna at Chandigarh in front of the office of the DPI (C), Punjab, on March 25. A decision to this effect was taken by the association in its state council meeting held under the presidentship of Prof Bag Singh Sandhu here yesterday.

Prof Jaipal Singh, general secretary of the association, said if the state government did not accept their demands they would be forced to adopt an agitational approach.

Their demands include relaxation in refresher courses up to December 31, 2004, feeder grade service benefits, incentive increments for M.Phil, Ph.D teachers and removing anomalies in pay fixation.

The association members might decide to boycott annual examination in April for one day and go to Patiala to protest against the CM. In the first phase, the teachers would hold unit-level meetings and dharnas on March 17 and send memorandums to the Chief Minster, the Chief Secretary and other authorities.
