200 examined at heart check-up camp

Panchkula, February 27
A team of doctors from Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre, New Delhi, today urged the public to adopt an active lifestyle to prevent the incidence of heart diseases.

According to Dr Sanjeev Mittal, a consultant cardiologist and head of the Community Outreach Programme team, the main emphasis now was on the early detection and prevention of the heart diseases. “Routine exercise and balanced diet can contribute significantly to check the diseases related to the heart”.

He was talking to reporters during the course of a free heart check-up camp organised by the Mahamai Mansa Devi Charitable Bhandara Committee on the premises of the Mansa Devi temple near here, today.

Advising the patients to avoid non-vegetarian and calorie-rich foods, he said people even in the West were taking to yoga and meditation to control heart ailments.

Terming walking to be a good exercise for heart patients, doctors were of the opinion that a majority of the heart patients, particularly in India, had sedentary lifestyle.

Meanwhile, over 200 patients were examined by the team for various heart ailments, Mr Bimal Jain, president of the committee, informed. A large number of patients from city and the adjoining area thronged the camp for check-up.

Cricket tournament from March 20

Chandigarh, February 27
At an executive committee meeting of the UT Cricket Association, Chandigarh, it was decided to organise the annual league-cum-knockout cricket tournament for ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ divisions from March 20.

The entry fee for ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ divisions will be Rs 1,000, Rs 600 and Rs 400, respectively. The tournament will be held in Cricket Stadium, Sector 16, the Punjab Engineering College cricket grounds and Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 27.

It was also decided that there would be no change for ‘A’ and ‘B’ divisions for which matches will be played on a league-cum-knockout basis while in ‘C’ division, the matches will be played on a knockout basis till the quarter-finals. The league matches will be played for the quarter-finals and semi-finals.

The last date for entries will be March 13. It can be deposited with the secretary of the association or in the association office in Cricket Stadium, Sector 16.

Honour

The Chandigarh Volleyball Association will honour the volleyball team along with their SAI volleyball coach Mohan Nargeta. The function was postponed earlier as the two players were attending the junior India coaching camp at SAI southern centre, Bangalore. The function will be held in the auditorium of Shivalik Public School, Sector 41-B, Chandigarh.
