Foundation stone of ESI dispensary at Dwarka laid

New Delhi, February 25
The Union Labour Minister, Mr Sahib Singh Verma, today laid the foundation stone of an ESI dispensary-cum-local office complex at Dwarka in South-west Delhi.

The three-storey complex will be constructed at a cost of about Rs 80 lakh. The existing dispensary and local office operating from rented buildings in Palam village will be shifted to the new complex on its completion.

The central location of the complex will benefit more than 50,000 insured persons and their family members residing in the area.

The plot for the dispensary-cum-local office complex in Sector 7, Dwarka, had been acquired earlier by the ESI Corporation from the DDA.

Speaking on the occasion, the Union Labour Minister said that the objective of the Corporation was to provide all possible facilities nearer to the doorstep of the beneficiary population.

He said the dispensary would have additional features for improved services, which may be upgraded to a full-fledged health centre later on.

Dr Sahib Singh also disclosed that the ESIC super-speciality centre proposed to be setup in Delhi would also be set up in Dwarka sub-city, keeping in view its future potential and easy approach by road, metro and air.

He said that the ESI beneficiaries of northern states in need of super- speciality treatment shall be referred to this proposed new facility. He also said that there had been visible improvements in medical services under the ESI scheme over the last one-year. Many action plans were currently being implemented for further improvements in the system, he said.

Other dignitaries and senior functionaries present on the occasion included Dharam Dev Solanki, MLA, Mr Baleshwar Rai, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Mr Ajay Dua, director general, ESIC.

Score: Air Force: 157 all out in 40 overs (P.M.S. Reddy 50, Ved Prakash 4 for 29).

FCI: 158 for 5 in 34 overs (Akash Malhotra 77, Pankaj Thakur 40, Manish Jha 2 for 22).

In another match L B Shastri beat EIL by 6 wickets in A-I division at Mohan Meakin ground.

Score: EIL 78 all out in 21.3 overs (Nitin Aggarwal 5 for 9, Parvesh Chikara 3 for 30, Sumit Rana 2 for 20).

L B Shastri: 79 for 4 in 15.3 overs (Honey Garg 16, Manish Jolly 3 for 40).

Meanwhile, Bright beat Subhania Club by 152 runs in Super `A’ Division at University ground.

Score: Bright 277 for 7 in 40 overs (Sanjay Bamal 114, Sanjeev Saini 35, Dinesh Yadav 30, Gurpreet Singh 3 for 30, Azeem Ahmad 2 for 39).

DDCA to conduct coaches’ course

New Delhi, February 25
The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) will conduct Level-I Coaches Course for North Zone from February 23 to 28 at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground.

Coaches of the state associations of DDCA, Punjab, Himachal, Jammu and Kashmir, Services Sports Control Board and Haryana are participating in the course.

DDCA sports secretary Sunil Dev said the important aspect of the coaching course was that it was being conducted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) through the National Cricket Academy.

The course will be managed by eminent coaches like Madan Lal, Parthasarathi Sharma, trainer Tej Kaul and physio Vajbhav Daga.

The course will impart not only the technical part of the coaching, but physical and practical training as well.

Ramesh Negi deadly

A deadly bowling spell of 3 for 9 by Ramesh Negi helped Hudco defeat Eagle Global by seven wickets in the Reebok Cricket Tournament at the Palam ground.

Scores: Eagle Global: 74 all out in 21.4 overs (Sanjeev Singh 37, Ritish Kumar 32, Ramesh Negi 3 for 9, Suresh Negi 3 for 18, Rajneesh Saxena 2 for 14).

Ashok tops in order of Merit list

Ashok, ‘rookie of the year’ award winner last season, has lived upto his reputation as a promising golfer, regaining his place at the top of the Order of Merit list on the Hero Honda Indian Golf Tour for the current season.

The 22-year-old takes the top slot after his remarkable victory in the Singhania Open, the 14th leg of the tour, last week.

Ramesh has amassed Rs 7,23,010 from 12 starts thus far.

He has nine top ten finishes, had relinquished his place at the top after he had skipped the previous event, the Forest Hill Open, owing to Asian PGA Tour assignment.

Ashok took off from where he had begun, and with a blistering final round of eight-under 64 not only took the winner’s cheque home but also climbed to the top spot, displacing Vijay Kumar, who was away playing the Malaysian Open.

Mukesh Kumar, who finished second to Ashok at Noida last week, follows his younger compatriot on the money list too.

He has played 13 events thus far and trails Ashok by a mere Rs 20,000, and will be looking to restore his position.

SSP Chowrasia is in the third position with a total earnings of Rs 6,76,365 while Vijay Kumar occupies the fourth position with a total of Rs 6,33,628.

With only a few events remaining on the tour, there is an even battle among the top four players while Digvijay Singh is a distant fifth with season’s earnings of Rs 5,73,606.

Arjun Singh, who has played only four events, winning two of them, is in sixth place with a total prize money of Rs 4,98,300.

The tour has produced as many as 39 lakhpatis.

Sandeep Syal leads in the ‘rookie of the year’ award.

The 20-year-old form Chennai is in the 27th position overall, and has amassed Rs 1,59,528 from 13 events. Gurbaaz Mann from Chandigarh, who also has ventured on the Asian PGA Tour, is second with a total of Rs 1,37,140.

Corporate heads for CII golf tourney

Some of the leading names in the corporate world will take part in the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Annual Golf Tournament to be held at the Jaypee Greens Golf Resort in Greater Noida on Sunday.

Jaypee Greens, a world class course, has been designed by former world champion Greg Norman of Australia.

A member of the CII National Council Vikram Bakshi said golf was emerging as a favourite participation sport of senior corporates in India and the annual tournament is a keenly awaited event.

Mr Bakshi said the event will be sponsored by Royal Challenge accessories and Jaypee Greens. He said the CII was indebted to CEO of Golf Management Rishi Narain for putting together this high profile golfing fiesta.

President of Shaw Wallace AKMA Shamsuddin said the CII was a well-respected institution that is paving way for the globalisation of Indian business. Mr Avasthi of Jaypee Greens said the resort was well-known for its incomparable course and this event will be the highlight of the golfing calendar of the year.

Event organiser, former Asian Games champion Rishi Narain, said anyone scoring a hole in one on the 19th hole will win a Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV while the overall winner will get the CII Trophy plus an LG Plsama TV.

The winners in three handicap divisions will get professional standard golf bags from Titleist. The tournament will be played on individual score of 18 holes.

Delhi girls enter Super Seven cricket final

An all-round display by captain Sunita Yadav (37 and 2 for 10) and an unbeaten 30 by Ambika Rani helped Delhi defeat Uttar Pradesh by five wickets and enter the final of the second Youth National Super Seven Cricket Tournament in Uttaranchal.

Scores: Uttar Pradesh: 82 for 4 in 6 overs (Annu Malik 34, Sunita Yadav 2 for 10, Preeti Gupta 2 for 6).

Delhi: 83 for 2 in 5 overs (Sunita Yadav 37 n o, Ambika Rani 30 n o).

Delhi had beaten Uttaranchal by four wickets in the semi-final.

Scores: Uttaranchal: 47 all out in 6 overs (Himani Sharma 22, Pallavi Singh 2 for 12, Sunita Yadav 2 for 21, Sudhvira Sahani 2 for 11).

Delhi: 48 for 3 in 5 overs (Suvira Sahani 20, Preeti Gupta 24).

In the boys section, Delhi defeated Karnataka by five wickets and entered semi-final.

A dashing half century by Gaurav Malik and deadly bowling by Sidhant Saxena (4 for 21) helped EXL-Service beat Orient Craft by 28 runs in the Suntan Cup Cricket Tournament at the Vinay Marg ground.

Scores: EXL-Service: 169 for 9 in 25 overs (Gaurav Malik 56, Gregory 32, Majid Ali 4 for 25).

Bhutan Colts to play in Delhi

The Bhutan Colts Under-19 team will play ten matches in Delhi.

In their first match, which was inaugurated by SGTB Khalsa College principal Dr Klair, the visitors lost to Crift Cricket Club by a margin of 122 runs. The Bhutan Colts will also play matches in Malaysia.

Scores: Crift Club: 220 in 44 overs (Agnesh Surya 90, Anuj 29, Damber 3 for 22, Tamdiu 2 for 21).
