DDCA to
conduct coaches’ course New Delhi, February 25 Coaches of the state associations of DDCA, Punjab, Himachal, Jammu and Kashmir, Services Sports Control Board and Haryana are participating in the course. DDCA sports secretary Sunil Dev said the important aspect of the coaching course was that it was being conducted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) through the National Cricket Academy. The course will be managed by eminent coaches like Madan Lal, Parthasarathi Sharma, trainer Tej Kaul and physio Vajbhav Daga. The course will impart not only the technical part of the coaching, but physical and practical training as well.

Golf New Delhi, February 25 The 22-year-old takes the top slot after his remarkable victory in the Singhania Open, the 14th leg of the tour, last week. Ramesh has amassed Rs 7,23,010 from 12 starts thus far. He has nine top ten finishes, had relinquished his place at the top after he had skipped the previous event, the Forest Hill Open, owing to Asian PGA Tour assignment. Ashok took off from where he had begun, and with a blistering final round of eight-under 64 not only took the winner’s cheque home but also climbed to the top spot, displacing Vijay Kumar, who was away playing the Malaysian Open. Mukesh Kumar, who finished second to Ashok at Noida last week, follows his younger compatriot on the money list too. He has played 13 events thus far and trails Ashok by a mere Rs 20,000, and will be looking to restore his position. SSP Chowrasia is in the third position with a total earnings of Rs 6,76,365 while Vijay Kumar occupies the fourth position with a total of Rs 6,33,628. With only a few events remaining on the tour, there is an even battle among the top four players while Digvijay Singh is a distant fifth with season’s earnings of Rs 5,73,606. Arjun Singh, who has played only four events, winning two of them, is in sixth place with a total prize money of Rs 4,98,300. The tour has produced as many as 39 lakhpatis. Sandeep Syal leads in the ‘rookie of the year’ award. The 20-year-old form Chennai is in the 27th position
overall, and has amassed Rs 1,59,528 from 13 events. Gurbaaz Mann from
Chandigarh, who also has ventured on the Asian PGA Tour, is second with
a total of Rs 1,37,140. |
Corporate
heads for CII golf tourney New Delhi, February 25 Jaypee Greens, a world class course, has been designed by former world champion Greg Norman of Australia. A member of the CII National Council Vikram Bakshi said golf was emerging as a favourite participation sport of senior corporates in India and the annual tournament is a keenly awaited event. Mr Bakshi said the event will be sponsored by Royal Challenge accessories and Jaypee Greens. He said the CII was indebted to CEO of Golf Management Rishi Narain for putting together this high profile golfing fiesta. President of Shaw Wallace AKMA Shamsuddin said the CII was a well-respected institution that is paving way for the globalisation of Indian business. Mr Avasthi of Jaypee Greens said the resort was well-known for its incomparable course and this event will be the highlight of the golfing calendar of the year. Event organiser, former Asian Games champion Rishi Narain, said anyone scoring a hole in one on the 19th hole will win a Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV while the overall winner will get the CII Trophy plus an LG Plsama TV. The winners in
three handicap divisions will get professional standard golf bags from
Titleist. The tournament will be played on individual score of 18 holes. |
