Khanna
Cheques given
: Local MLA Harbans Kaur Dullo distributed cheques worth of Rs 15 lakh for the development of villages during functions at Bharti and Bhadla villages here on Tuesday. She also distributed pension cheques among widows and old-age pensioners. She distributed cheques among panchayats of Badhla Ucha, Badhla Necha, Alaur, Mank Majra, Alipur Majra and Ramgarh villages.

Meeting: The BJP-SAD alliance will win all 14 seats of Punjab and Chandigarh in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. This was claimed by Mr Sarv Deep Kalirao, president of the local unit of BJP, at a meeting of the party held here on Tuesday. He said the Punjab Government had not done any development in the state. Mr Jaspal Lotey, former president, Khanna Mandal, Babla Mehta general secretary of the local unit, Mr Mohinder Pal Jassal, councillor, and Mr Baljinder Singla were present at the meeting.

Two hurt: Two brothers were injured in a property dispute at Libra village here on Tuesday. Both were admitted to the local Civil Hospital. Lakhwinder Singh alleged that his brother along with another person attacked him with iron rods. He received injuries to the head. On the other hand, Devinder Singh levelled similar charges against his brother.

Ludhiana
Dental camp
: A dental awareness-cum-check-up camp was organised by Dr Ajay Shahi, former president Indian Dental Association, at Sanatan High School, Deep Nagar, here on Tuesday. The camp was organised in association with the Lions Club, Ludhiana. Mr Prem Grover, former district governor, Mr G.S. Panchii, secretary, Lions Club Ludhiana Decent, and Mr Hira Lal Kaura, secretary, Urban Vihar Citizen Council, Dugri, were the guests of honour. Dr Ajay Shahi gave a talk on prevention of dental diseases and emphasised on right diet. He examined 400 schoolchildren and recorded their dental status. Cards were distributed among them. Student were also given a brush, toothpaste and information brochure.

Workshop: Sehat Hospital, Urban Estate, Jamalpur, organised a workshop-cum-seminar on “First-aid at your workplace — How to get best out of it”. Dr Devinder Batth and Dr Harkirat Batth gave details regarding first-aid using audio-visual aid. Tips were given to the participants on how to prevent accidents. Certificates of participation were also given.

CHANDIGARH

SEMINAR: The Institute of Company Secretaries of India, Chandigarh Chapter, is holding a half-day seminar, in collaboration with the Income Tax Department on`` e-filing of TDS returns by corporates’’ at 2.30 pm on March 1 in the seminar hall of GGDSD College, Sector 32. Mr Vijay Khanna, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, North West Region, Chandigarh, will preside over the seminar. Officers of the Income Tax Department will also answer queries of the participants regarding the provisions and e-TDS filing. 

PUNJABI ALBUM: “Vekhin Dila Pyar Na Karin” — a Punjabi album by Baljeet Kaur was released at Punjab Kala Bhavan in sector 16 here on Tuesday. Produced by Monti Cassettes, the album has eight songs depicting the true colour of Punjabi folk. “In this album we have used mostly the folk instruments to retain the essence of original folk music,” says Baljeet Kaur. The songs are mostly romantic except for a few foot tapping dance numbers. Music is given by Lal Mohan.

CONDEMNED: In a joint statement here on Tuesday, senior leaders of the Chandigarh Vikas Manch condemned rumours being spread by certain sections that senior leaders of the manch were joining the Congress. The statement is signed by Mr Davinder Babla, Mr Vijay Pal Dimpy, Mr Sandeep Singh and Mr Davinder Aulakh, all general secretaries and Mr Jatinder Bhatia, Mr Vijay S. Rana and Mrs Harpreet Kaur Babla, all councillors.

Ambala
WORKSHOP: Vocational guidance and placement cell of SD College, Ambala cantonment, organised a two-day workshop on career counselling. The workshop was organised in collaboration with the Regional Centre for Entrepreneurship Development, Chandigarh, and the District Industry Centre. The college Principal, Dr Desh Bandhu, inaugurated the workshop. In his address, Dr Bandhu advised the students to not to run after white-collar jobs. He said the only solution to the problem of unemployment was self-employment, which also enhances self esteem.

OFFICE-BEARERS: Amrik Singh Rajumajra has been appointed the president of youth wing of the INLD of Ambala unit here on Tuesday. The other office-bearers include vice-presidents — Candershekhar Mulana and Sandeep Rana; general secretary — Angrej Singh Dudhli; secretary — Yadvinder Singh, Sarwan Singh, Inderjit Bulana, Amrik Singh Fathehgarh and Sheesh Pal Jandheri; joint secretary — Gurmeet Singh Baknor, Darbara Singh Panoto and Harpreet Singh; cashier — Jaggu Andheri; and spokesman — Shushil Kumar Goel.
