Jagdeep, Navjot emerge fastest

Ludhiana, February 24
Jagdeep Singh of BA I in the boys’ section while Navjot Sandhu of MA I in the girl’s section won the 100 m race, respectively, on the opening day of the golden jubilee annual sports meet of the Gujarnwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Civil Lines. It began at the GGN Khalsa School, Rose Garden Ground, here today.

Mr Nauhihal Singh, SSP, Vigilance, inaugurated the two-day meet. The chief guest was accorded a warm welcome by Mr Harmohinder Singh and Mr Kuljeet Singh, joint secretary and assistant secretary, respectively, of the Khalsa Educational Council. Mr Prithipal Singh Kapur, former Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, was also present on the occasion.

Before the formal inauguration Prof Gurdip Singh Sobti, Principal of the college, highlighted the achievements of the college during 2003-2004.

Results: 100 m (boys) — Jagdeep Singh 1, Rachhpal Singh 2 and Sanjay Arora 3; girls — Navjot Sandhu 1, Charanjeet Kaur 2 and Suman Yadav 3; shot put (boys) — Anil Kumar 1, Navjot 2 and Preet Kamal 3; 1500 m (boys) — Guriqbal Singh 1, Gurwinder Singh 2 and Amandeep Singh 3; 200 m (boys) — Harpreet Singh 1, Amandeep Singh 2 and Gagandeep Singh 3; javelin throw (boys) — Harpreet Singh 1, Gurwinder Singh 2 and Ravinder Singh 3.

Sheela grabs 5 gold, named best athlete

Ludhiana, February 24
Sheela, a student of BA III, clinched 10 medals, including five gold, and was named the best athlete at the 34th annual athletics meet of the Arya College for Women held at the boys college ground here today. She annexed five gold medals in 400 m, 800 m, 4x100 m relay, high jump and javelin throw.

Earlier, Ms Charanjit Arora, lecturer, physical education, read out the annual sports report. The main attraction was a fancy dress show by students. The students also presented yoga exercises. The teaching staff of the college took part in musical chair. Ms Satisha Sharma, in charge of the women section of the college, welcomed the guests.

Mr Dinkar Gupta, DIG, Ludhiana, gave away prizes to the winners.

Long jump — Neha 1, Sheela 2, Shivan and Rajni 3; high jump — Sheela 1, Neha 2 and Nisha 3; shot put — Shalini 1, Shakshi 2 and Aarti 3; discus throw — Rajni 1, Sheela 2 and Neetua 3; javelin throw — Sheela 1, Pratibha 2 and Pritam Kaur 3.

50 m — Neha 1, Ritu 2 and Rajni 3; 100 m — Neha 1, Shivani 2 and Sheela 3; 200 m — Neha 1, Sheela 2 and Aarti 3; 400 m — Sheela 1, Ritu 2 and Neha 3; 800 m — Sheela 1, Neha 2 and Rajni and Aarti 3; 4x100 m relay — BA III 1, BA II 2, 10+2 3; slow cycling race — Nisha 1 and Pratibha 2; three-legged race — Hema and Prakriti 1, Neha and Harpreet 2, Pratibha and Aarti 3; sack race — Shivani 1, Rajni 2 and Pratibha 3; potato race — Shivani 1, Minakshi 2 and Nisha 3; rope skipping — Sukhjeet 1, Parvesh 2 and Shweta 3; flower basket race — Shivani 1, Harpreet Kaur 2 and Sonia 3; chatti race — Bimla 1, Geeta 2 and Bhakti 3.
