Rallies on Pulse Polio Campaign

Chandigarh February 21
Students and NSS volunteers of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 19, took part in a rally to make people aware about the National Pulse Polio Drive scheduled for February 22. The rally was flagged off by Mrs Saroj Gupta, Principal of the School. The NSS Programme Officer, Mr Amarjit Singh, informed the rally passed through parts of Sector 19.

A rally was also organised at the Civil Dispensary, Mauli Jagran, by schoolchildren of Government High School and Guru Nanak Public School. Area Supervisor Dr Anil Garg and sector supervisors Dr Vandana Lor and Dr Sudha Sharma coordinated the rally and told the schoolchildren to spread the message for eradication of polio.

Councillor of the area Balraj Singh flagged off the rally and urged the people to bring children below five years of age to polio booths on February 22.

The Civil Dispensary, Dhanas, too, organised a rally yesterday. Dr Vandana Janmeja flagged off the rally. Students of Government School, Sarvhitkari School, and Tiny tots School participated. Teachers of the schools also took part. The rally passed through the Housing Board Colony, Milk Colony, Chaman Colony and Dhanas village.

Staff of the dispensary and Punjab National Bank, Dhanas, and Anganwari workers also took part.

As many as 120 students of Government High School, Sector 47, today took part in a pulse polio campaign rally which was flagged off by Dr P.K. Shridhar.

Pulse Polio to cover 1.25 kids

Chandigarh, February 21
A target population of 1.25 lakh children will be administered polio drops under the second phase of the Pulse Polio Immunisation campaign tomorrow.

The UT Health Department has set up 461 booths, including 51 mobile teams, to cover all sectors and villages in the city. Seven booths will be set up at entry points from the Panchkula, Mohali and PGI sides.

Dr M.P. Minocha, Director, Family Welfare Bureau, apart from 1,800 Health Department employees and anganwari workers, voluntary organisations would also be involved in the national immunisation campaign.

Take healthcare to people’s doorsteps, says Governor

The Haryana Governor, Babu Parmanand, has stressed the need for launching innovative health schemes for the rural and the backward areas to strengthen the existing primary health care facilities.

Speaking at the inauguration of a national conference on hospital administration at the PGI here today, he said schemes like “Swasthya Apke Dwar”, which take health care right to the doorstep of the people must be launched. He said health melas and special camps in the rural areas would provide additional health facilities for the people.

He said the task of hospital administrators had become all the more challenging with the with the introduction of a sophisticated diagnostic and therapeutic technology in hospitals.

HFCL win cricket tourney

Chandigarh, February 21
HFCL won the CRY Cadence Cup Cricket Tournament beating SPICE XI by four wickets in the final at the Sector 3 sports complex, Panchkula, here today.

Rahul Joshi of HFCL won the best player award, while Vivek Pathania of SPICE XI got the best bowler award and Amit Bhardwaj of HFCL bagged the best batsman award.

The tournament began on December 20.

Vice-Admiral Johnson (retd), Adviser CRY, said, “The enthusiasm of the teams in participating in the tournament had been a source of motivation, strength and encouragement to us”.

Brief scores: SPICE XI: 174 all out in 31.1 overs (Rajeev 67, Manan 31, Arun 3 for 29, Rahul 3 for 21); HFCL: 177 for six in 29.3 overs (Rahul Joshi 48, Amit 45 n.o.,Vivek 2 for 20, Manan 2 for 45).

Sports week concludes

Chandigarh, February 21
The annual sports week celebrations of Shemrock Senior Secondary School, Phase 69, Mohali, concluded today on the school premises. The tiny tots took part in various athletic events. Basketball and handball contests were also organised.

Mr A.S.Bajwa, Director of the school, stated that sports was an integral part of the school curriculum and emphasis was laid on the overall development of their children.

Hardik Jain won the overall trophy for winning 100 m, long jump and table tennis events. Avreet won the 100 m race in boys section while Arshiya won the same in the girls section.

Chandandeep won the 50 m race in the boys and Kirandeep in the girls sections, respectively. Harit and Ankita won the long jump in boys and girls section, respectively. Children of junior classes gave a demonstration of PT and tae kwon do.

Football final

Chandigarh Youngsters XI will clash with Hoshiarpur Police in the final of the 15th Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial Football Tournament played here at Kalka. In the first semifinal, Hoshiarpur Police defeated Oriental Bank of Commerce 2-0, while in the second semifinal tie, Chandigarh Youngsters Club beat SAI (Nehru Stadium, Delhi) 4-1.

Cricket match

St Anne’s Old Students Association, Sector 32, outplayed St Anne’s Convent School, Sector 32, by 91 runs in the third anniversary celebration cricket match played here today. SAOSA made 175 runs for eight in 20 overs, while in reply, St Anne’s Convent School managed to reach 84 for nine in 20 overs.
