The city today lost 13-year-old Vikas Mahajan, member of the NASA Kids Club, when he fell off an autorickshaw in Sector 34 while going to take his exam at Manav Mangal School, Sector 21.

Murder accused escapes from PGI
Chandigarh, February 19
A murder accused escaped from the PGI last night to become the 12th jail inmate since 1992 to flee from the institution. Vijay Pal Singh, who was admitted to a surgical ward on February 11, was found missing from his bed number 39 on the third floor of C Block, at around 7.30 pm yesterday.

353 acres in Karoran, Nada declared surplus

The SDM-cum-Collector (Agrarian) has declared 353 acres of land in Karoran and Nada villages belonging to Col B.S. Sandhu (retd), president of the Forest Hill Golf Club, and his two sons as surplus and ordered the Revenue Officer-cum-Naib Tehsildar concerned to take legal action for handing over its possession to the Punjab Government.

Killer car impounded

The Sector 34 Police Station today impounded the Lancer car (PB 04 H 0001) for being involved in a Sector 33 accident that killed Ravinder Singh on the night of February 16.

Police issues circular on Gurdeep Singh
Chandigarh, February 19
The Chandigarh Police today issued a “lookout” circular on Gurdeep Singh, who drove Jagtar Singh Hawara to safety near Sirhind. The circular has been sent to all air and seaports to prevent Gurdeep Singh escape abroad.

Channels go off air to viewers’ surprise
Mohali, February 19
Major cable operators providing services to at least a lakh homes in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula kept the channels off air for five hours today. While operators responsible for this temporary cable blackout termed it as a “token strike’’ against consumers for “misbehaving” with workers, many residents chose to call it ‘‘syndicated blackmail’’.

Land owners submit objections

As many as 100 land owners of five villages in Mohali today submitted letters of objection to the acquisition of their land by Punjab Urban Planning and Development Authority (PUDA) authority at PUDA Bhavan here today.

Girls seem to be under more examination-related stress as compared with boys. The Karan Jasbir nite whipped up a frenzy with the famous “Dhai lakh di” on the first evening of Jhankar-2004 at Panjab University here this evening. Cyclists to pedal from Lahore to Delhi

A relay cycling event from Lahore to Delhi, spanning more than 500 km, will be the highlight of the first-ever All-Punjab Games, involving East Punjab (India) and West Punjab (Pakistan), to be held from December 5 to 11 this year. Patiala will host 10 disciplines, while Mohali will play host to one discipline.
