SEMINAR: ICFAI University, based at Hyderabad, organised a seminar on “Career Opportunities in Finance and Management” here. In a press note issued here on Wednesday Mr Tejinder Walia, Development Officer, said the objective of the seminar was to create awareness among students about the emerging trends in Indian economy.

INVITATION: A local doctor, Dr S. L. Khanna, Assistant Professor in T.B. and Chest Hospital, and Medical College, Amritsar, has been invited to present a paper on Kartagener syndrome at in Bangkok between February 16 and 19.

LOK DURBAR: Nearly 1300 complaints, ranging from matrimonial disputes to lack of civic amenities in villages were disposed of at Lok Darbar being organised by the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Ashok Gupta, for the past about four months.

farewell party: At a farewell party organised at the Sector 15 DAV Model School, outgoing class X students Vikram Marwaha and Sarah were crowned Mr DAV 2004 and Miss DAV 2004. According to a press release, the first runners-up title went to Nakul Tandon and Shilpi. Dances and songs were presented on the occasion.

CONTEST: Thirty-five participants from various departments of Panjab University and institutions of the city took part in the ‘Kavya Path Pratiyogita’, a poetry recitation competition, dedicated to eminent poet, Kumar Vikal, at Gandhi Bhavan, here on Thursday. The event began with the recitation of poems of Kumar Vikal by Dr Neerja Sood. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dharmanand Sharma, former chairperson of the Department of Philosophy, exhorted the participants and the audience to be their own candlelight.

Dead: A 13-year-old son of a newspaper employee died on Thursday when he slipped in the bathroom of his house in Sector 48. Sumit, son of Surinderpal Sharma, was taken to hospital and was declared brought dead.

STATUS CREATION: Serial director Praveen Sudan is planning to encourage new talent from the region. Talking to mediapersons on Wednesday, Mr Sudan said he has set up Status Creation Production to give opportunity to fresh talent. Mr Sudan has directed serials like ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ and ‘Shaka Laka Boom Boom’.

SAMMELAN: A state-level sammelan of Dalit and minority representatives will be held in Karnal. Talking to mediapersons here on Thursday, former general secretary of Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee Gian Sahota said the sammelan would be held on March 1.

CHANGE OF HEART: Mr Balbir Singh, president Dhalet Panchayat in the Kotkehloor constituency in the district, has joined the Congress along with his 500 supporters. Mr Balbir Singh announced this at a public meeting which was also attended by the Industries Minister, Mr Ramlal Thakur, at Dhalet, 60 km from here, on Tuesday.
