24,000 city students to take CBSE exams
Chandigarh, February 9
Atleast 24,000 candidates from the city will appear for their matriculation and senior secondary examination being conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education from March 1. Of these, the candidates appearing for the matriculation tests numbers 12,155 and for the senior secondary level the total number of candidates are 11,791.

CBSE exam staff to get higher payment
Chandigarh, February 9
Facsimile photos of the private candidates will play a crucial role in a free and fair conduct of the annual examinations of the Central Board of Secondary Examination commencing from March 1.To check cases of impersonation, the CBSE has provided the center superintendents with attendance sheets with facsimile photos of the candidates.

Pilot cremated with military honours   
Chandigarh, February 9
Flight Lieutenant Bharat Kumar, who was killed in an air crash in Rajasthan on February 7, was cremated with full service honours here today. A large number of service officers, relatives and other persons attended the funeral.

Jail officials ignored warder’s warnings

The arrested jail officials chose to ignore suspicion expressed by a Warder 10 days before terrorists Jagtar Singh Hawara, Paramjit Singh Bheora and Jagtar Singh escaped from Burail jail on January 21.

5-year-old run over by truck
Mohali, February 9
A five-year-old child was killed when a truck ran over him in Jagatpura Village here late this evening.

33 visually impaired arrested
Chandigarh, February 9
Thirtythree agitators of the Haryana Netraheen Jagriti Sangh, an organisation of the unemployed visually impaired youths of the state, were today arrested by the police from near the Matka Chowk and then sent to judicial custody till next Monday. They were also lathicharged. The police used water canon to disperse the agitators.

The police has booked a driver of Himachal Roadways Transport Corporation for rash driving and injuring a passenger here yesterday.

Oracle launches Technoschool

A new dimension was added to IT education in the city today with the launch of Technoschool, a facility set up under the workforce development programme of Oracle Corporation, the world’s largest information management software company with presence in over 150 countries and a turnover in excess of Rs 70,000 crore.

PU to hold refresher course for economics teachers
Chandigarh, February 9
Panjab University will hold a refresher course for lecturers in economics in the first week of March. The decision, announced here today, comes after members of the Senate and the Syndicate approached Vice-Chancellor K.N. Pathak, for organising the course, mandatory for lecturers eligible for the senior selection grade.

The creative ideas that germinated on January 30, the opening day of National Sculptors’ Camp at Leisure Valley in Sector 10, took final shape as 11 participating artists from different corners of the country packed their chisels and drillers on the concluding day of the camp here today.
