DPS, Bagrodia and Apex earn full points

New Delhi, January 19
Delhi Public School (DPS), Vasant Kunj, N K Bagrodia, Rohini and Apex School, Burari earned full points in the Kangaro Cup Football Tournament for Schools at the Ambedkar Stadium on Monday.

In a Group A match in the under-14 age group, DPS defeated St. Columba’s School 2-0 to collect three points.

Aseem put his side in the lead in the 11th minute while Arjun Ohri added the second goal in the 23rd minute.

In a Group C under-14 match, N K Bagrodia notched up their second victory when they defeated Modern School, Vasant Vihar 1-0.

The match-winner was scored by Mohit in the 35th minute.

Central Reserve Police Force School, Rohini were held to a goalless draw by Laxman Public School, Haus Khas in another Group C match in under-14.

In the under-17 age group, Apex School trounced St. Columba’s by 6-1 in Group A. Rajib Karmakar scored Apex’s first goal in the 33rd minute. Thereafter, there was a deluge of goals though not before Columba’s equalised through Edwin in the 43rd minute.

Apex then went on a scoring spree, spearheaded by M Nobin Singh, who scored thee goals in the 37th, 46th and 55th minutes to complete a hattrick. D Kaithal added the sixth goal.

In another Group A match, Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj defeated Laxman Public School 1-0. Joshi Nishant struck home the match-winner.

Tuesday’s fixtures: Apex Public vs St Francis De Sales (10.30 a m); St. Columba’s vs Govt School, Moti Bagh (11.30 a m);

Ashish Pandey to lead Delhi Under-19 soccer team

New Delhi, January 19
Mid-fielder Ashish Pandey will lead a 20-member Delhi team in the Junior Under-19 National Football Championship (North Zone), to be held at Una (Himachal Pradesh), from January 20. Defender Sunil Negi has been named the vice-captain.

Delhi have been placed in Group A alongwith Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Uttranchal while Group B comprises Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir and Chandigarh.

The team: Goalkeepers: Abhay Thakur and Rampal Prasad. Defenders: Bhartendu Sharma, Anupam Rathore, Raj Kumar, Srikant Bansal, Sunil Negi, Kapil Gulia and Saurav Singh Yadav.

Mid-fielders: Chetan Rawat, Ashish Pandey, Pardeep Nandi, Parveen Rawat and Mohd Khuram. Forwards: Sunil Rawat, Tapen Joshi, Yugal Kishore, Karan Bishnoi, Mujahid and Yatharth Sejpal.

Chaurasia, Feroz Ali emerge Pro-Am champs

SSP Chaurasia and Feroze Ali emerged winners with gross scores of 137 and 139 respectively in a close finish to the ninth Business Today Pro-Am of Champions held at the Classic Golf Resort in Gurgaon. The winners were richer by Rs 45,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively. Among the Chief Executive Officers, Hardeep Singh of Cargill India and Ashutosh Khanna of Grey Worldwide, took the honours with scores of 44 and 41 points, respectively.

The tournament featured 16 professionals, including Jeev Milkha Singh and Jyoti Randhawa.

The Business Today Pro-Am of Champions, presented by Royal Challenge apparels, witnessed participation by 18 teams of four.

The first team winners comprised Monish Bindra, Arvind Wable, Sonny Iqbal and Manu Anand while the second team consisted of Chaurasia, Harinder Bansi, Rajeev Thakore and S Chowdhary.

Shreeya, Rashmeet enter final

Shreeya Suri defeated Chulbul Chug 15-10 and Rashmeet Kaur downed Prathna Narayanan in the Category I Girls Class III and IV semi-final matches of the Indian Oil Badminton Talent Contest, organised by the Delhi Badminton Association, at the Indira Gandhi indoor stadium.

In the boys Class III and IV semi-finals, Subhanshu Wahi beat Geet Gulati 21-0 and Karan Mohan Gauba beat Karan Narang 21-9.

In the girls Class V and VI semi-finals, Radhika Babbar beat Chavi Gulati 17-14 and Harnam Kaur beat Chaitali Arora 15-6.

In the boys section in the same group, Akash Narang beat Shiv Goel 21-12 and Sahil Parekh beat Sahil Dilvari 21-13.

In the girls Class VII and VII semi-finals, Anchal Malhotra beat Jhankar Aggarwal 15-12 and Saloni Chopra beat Niharika Chhabra 15-13.

In the boys Class VII and VIII

quarter-finals, Atul Chauhan beat Raunaq Kapooor 21-10, Surmukh Singh b Rishab Sharma 21-19.

In the boys Class VII and VIII semi-final, Jatin Ummat beat Apoorv Joshi 21-17.

Gyan Bharti enter final in Avia Cricket Tournament

Fine knocks by Vidur Sethi (88) and Abhilash Malik (86) and deadly bowling of 5 for 75 by Ajay Chouhan helped Gyan Bharti South Delhi Academy beat Delhi Gymkhana on points basis in the Avia Young Achiever Two-Day Cricket Tournament at the Gyan Bharati ground.

Scores: Gyan Bharti (1st innings): 319 for 4 in 77 overs (Vidur Sethi 88, Abhilash Maok 86, Dishank Dhawan 36, Ishan Bhatia 2 for 51).

Second innings: 226 for 6 in 47 overs (Dishank Dhawan 55 n o, Abhishek Choudhary 45, Trigun Dass 37, Charanjeet Singh 32, A Chandok 31, Ishan Bhatia 2 for 53).

Sawej Khan hits century

A brilliant century by Sawej Khan (128, 15x4, 4x6) and 97 by Sandeep Kharki and all-round display by Anuj Jain (59 and 3 for 7) helped Ravindra Public School, Pitampura defeat Harry Academy by 238 in a league match of the second Rajeev Gandhi Memorial Under-17 Cricket Tournament at the Picknick Hut ground at Ashok Vihar.

Manan Sharma shines

An all-round display by Manan Sharma (56 and 3 for 2) and an unbeaten 57 by Jagrit Anand helped Modern School, Barakhamba Road beat Ganga School by 53 runs in the Rohtak Road Gymkhana Inter-School Under-16 Cricket Tournament.

Scores: Modern School: 184 for 4 in 35 overs (Jagrit A and 57 n o, Manan Sharma 56, Parth Rana 3 for 37).

Ganga School: 131 for 7 in 35 overs (Vikram Singh 48, Raghuvinder Singh 31, Manan Sharma 3 for 20).

In another match, Government Senior Secondary, Vikaspuri defeated Bal Bharati School, Pusa Road.

Scores: Bal Bharati School, Pusa Road: 82 all out in 26 overs (Chetany Shani 35, P S Negi 4 for 13, Vansh Kumar 3 for 18).
