Mr Sekhar Dhawan, Member Secretary of the Haryana State Legal Services Authority (HSLSA) has claimed that as many as 4,61,251 cases had been settled by 1,830 Lok Adalats held so far in Haryana. Of these, 23,941 motor accident claim cases had also been disposed of and a sum of Rs 154 crore awarded as compensation in these cases.
He disclosed that the HSLSA had provided free legal service to 15,876 persons in the state during the hearing of the cases in these Lok Adalats.
Moreover, the HSLSA had organised 530 legal literacy and legal awareness camps in the rural and slum areas of the state for creating awareness amongst the people of the state.
Mr Dhawan also inspected the functioning of the Lok Adalat held here yesterday on the instructions of Mr Justice V K Bali, a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and the Executive Chairman of the HSLSA.
As many as 500 cases of various categories including motor accident claim, matrimonial, civil and criminal and traffic challan cases were taken up in the Lok Adalat.
Of them, 356 cases of different categories were decided in the Lok Adalat. As many as 26 cases of Motor Vehicles Act were also decided wherein a total amount of Rs 30.84 lakh was awarded as compensation.
