With the arrest of one Raghubir Singh (74) and his son Vikram (24), both residents of Nangloi, the North-West police claimed to have solved a sensational double murder.

  Brrr... mercury plummets to season’s low
New Delhi, December 30
The national Capital today recorded the season’s lowest minimum temperature at five degree Celsius with dense fog and intense cold staging a comeback after two days of sunshine. The weather office said the thick fog has reduced visibility almost to zero. It said today’s minimum was two degrees less than normal, a fall of one degree over the previous day.

Civic bodies ‘helpless’ against builder mafia!
New Delhi, December 30
In an affidavit submitted before the Delhi High Court, civic bodies and the Delhi Police pleaded helplessness in controlling the land and builder mafia, which has turned the Capital into an urban concrete jungle.

Crackdown on ‘fixed’ meters
Panipat, December 30
The vigilance teams of the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) have detected a number of electricity meters, which were running slow, at 50 to 70 per cent of their speed. More than half a dozen meters, which were running slow, have been sent for tests in the laboratory. If the meters are found to have been tampered with, the consumers would be punished.

The Delhi Traffic Police have made elaborate traffic arrangements for the New Year’s eve, from 7.30 pm till the wee hours. The traffic will not be allowed to access areas like Connaught Place from route area (R/A) Mandi House, R/A Bengali Market, Chelmsford Road, New Delhi Railway Station, R/A G P Office, R/A Gole Market, Patel Chowk, K G Marg, Ferozshah Road crossing, Panchkuian Road, R K Ashram Marg crossing, DDU Marg, Minto Road crossing and the North foot on Ranjit Singh Flyover.

MC to file cases against 150 house tax defaulters
Panipat, December 30
The Panipat Municipal Council has decided to file cases against nearly 150 defaulters who have failed to deposit their house tax. In the recent past, the council had filed cases against around 100 defaulters who had failed to respond to the repeated notices of the council. Subsequently, the defaulters deposited the pending house tax after receiving notices from the court.
