Soybean — a healthy option
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, December 21
The American Soybean Association sponsored a series of soy cooking contests in which the participants made mouth-watering dishes using soy products. This activity was organised to bring awareness among the people about the goodness of soy products.

Soy products are rich in protein, which is good for people of all ages. Mr Ricky Thapar, from the American Soybean Association says,‘‘The idea of these contests is to give the women a chance to use the soy products and to educate them about the advantages of these products so that they can use these in their routine cooking and preserve health of the family. ‘‘The winners of Inter-College Soy Cooking Contests are: Mr Gurdip, first; Ms Manpreet, second; and Ms Neena Goyal, third.

The concept of ‘‘Soy Pavilion’’ also received widespread acclaim at the Food Expo2k3. The artistically designed pavilion was set up by the American Soybean Association which is a non profit, single commodity organisation of soybean farmers of the USA and others interested in the soybean industry, with its headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri, (USA) and nine offices worldwide. The association is one of the sponsors of Food Expo 2k3, North India's leading food exhibition that was held in Ludhiana from December 19-21.

The ‘‘Soy Pavilion’’ has brought together six soy food companies on a common platform in the food expo. These companies are: Sonic Biochem, Samara Group of Companies, Marvik, Soya Fresh Point, White Waves and VSMD Enterprises. ASA displays various technical bulletins and recipe books on soy products for distribution among the visitors.
