Tribune News Service

Panchkula, December 21
A team of doctors headed by Civil Surgeon , Dr Satvir Chaudhary, today raided a clinic in Maheshpur village, Bhatia Clinic. The Health Department had received complaints that sex determination tests were being performed here and illegal medical termination of pregnancies was also being done.

The team consisting of Assistant State Drugs Comptroller, Mr G.L. Singhal, District School Medical Officer, Dr Rajinder Sarna, District Immunisation Officer, Dr Shail Gupta, Senior Medical Officer Dr Usha Gupta, Medical Officer, Dr Rakesh Talwar and District Drug Inspector Dr Kamaldeep Dhawan raided the clinic and recovered several instruments used for conducting MTPs. In addition to this, several government supply medicines like Copper T. Avil injections etc were also seized.

An official press release said that Dr Mrs Gayatri and Dr Pushkavir Singh Bhatia - who were running the clinic , were BAMS doctors. The circumstantial evidence especially the recovery of the instruments provided indication of the offence, it said. The press release said that the seized Copper T was expired, and their stocking by the practicing doctor amounted to immoral and unethical act on their part.

Meanwhile, the health authorities have approached the police and requested them to take suitable action against the owners of this clinic. However, this has stirred the hornet’s nest for the health authorities, who have failed to take any action against a government doctor, whose nursing home was raided by the health authorities on November 28. Though no records were available at Mamta Nursing home in Sector 12- A, an operation theatre, various equipment used for doing MTPs, and, other surgical equipment was found in the nursing home.

The checking at Mamta Nursing Home in Sector 12- A was done after the Deputy Commissioner, Mrs Satwanti Ahlawat, had directed the Civil Surgeon, Panchkula, Dr Satvir Chaudhary to raid the place.
