Athletic meet begins today

Ludhiana, December 4
Nearly 400 medals will be at stake during the athletics meet of Sacred Heart Convent Senior Secondary School, Sarabha Nagar, slated to be held from December 5 to 7. Sister Helima, the Principal of the school, said the participants would be divided into Green, Red, Blue and Yellow houses and categorised under three age groups — sub junior (u-12 years), junior (u-15 years) and senior (above 15 years) for boys as well as girls.

These athletes will be vying for top honours in track disciplines — 100 m, 200 m, 400 m, 800 m and 1500 m; field events — shot put, discus throw, high jump and long jump, besides team events 4x100m and 4x400m relay races for both boys and girls and tug of war for interhouse competitions. Bahadur Singh, an Asiad gold medalist in shot put, will inaugurate the meet on December 5 at 9 am while Manjeet Kaur, a member of the 4x400m relay gold medal winning team, will be the guest of honour.

Sports at Gill from today

The annual sports festival at Gill village near here will be held from December 5 according to a press note issued here on Thursday. During this three-day festival to be organised by the Golden Youth Club in association with the gram panchayat, competition in kabaddi, football, tug-of-war, volleyball, athletics and dogs races will be conducted.
