BCCI enters platinum jubilee year
Our Sports Reporter

New Delhi, November 28
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will celebrate its platinum jubilee when it completes 75 years of existence on December 1. From Ranjit Singhji to Sachin Tendulkar, the exploits of India’s cricketing greats will come alive on ESPN Star Sports in the Sportsline Special on December 1.

Divided into four segments, the Hindi sports news programme features interviews with BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmia, Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Erapally Prasanna, S. Venkataraghavan, Mushtaq Ali and India’s oldest living Test cricketer M. J. Gopalan, besides cricket historian Ramachandra Guha.

The Sportsline Special will start its journey from the Jamnagar home of Ranjit Singhji after whom the Ranji Trophy was named, and which got rolling in Madras in 1934. The second segment reflects on the glorious 70s that saw victories in the West Indies and England, the meteoric rise of Indian spin bowling and the unleashing of Kapil Dev, who brought home the coveted World Cup.

The next two segments will trace the course Indian cricket took before reaching the present stature.

Srinath suggests five bowlers

Javagal Srinath, who has recently retired from international cricket, has advocated a five-man bowling attack to tackle the Australians in the Test series Down Under. Speaking as a panelist in the latest episode of ESPN Presents ‘Samsung Cricket Show’, Srinath said: “The combination is vital...go in with five bowlers. If the five top batsmen can’t do much, it’s highly improbable that the sixth would do anything for the team”.
