Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, November 28
Aimed at creating awareness among the public about common eye ailments, the Chugh Eye Microsurgery Foundation Clinics, will launch “Eye Super Six” seminars, followed by a free eye testing and check-up.

Dr Rajan Chugh, CEO of the foundation, said international research had revealed that incidence of infections in and around the eye was estimated to be 15 times more in the developing countries as compared to the developed nations. “People tend to be callous about their eye care and often ignore blurring, redness and watering of the eyes as normal till their vision starts getting affected, which could be dangerous if ignored for too long,” said Dr Chugh, while addressing a press conference here today.

He said as part of the charity programme on eye health education, they would create awareness about the symptoms, causes and remedies for common eye ailments like cataract, glaucoma, children’s eyesight, diabetic blindness, infections and festival eye hazards and side effects of various diseases and medicines taken for their treatment.

He said prevalence of eye diseases was reaching enormous proportions in India despite significant advances in the management of eye diseases. The first “Eye Super Six” seminar will be held at Lala Lajpat Rai Bhavan, Sector 15-B, on November 30. There will be more such seminars, which will be followed by free eye testing and check-up to dispel all doubts of patients regarding eye ailments.
