AMRITSAR
BOOKED: After months of the filing of a complaint, the B-division police on Wednesday booked Ajmer Singh, an ASI who has been dismissed, for allegedly beating up and threatening Shubh Bhalla, a resident of Ajit Nagar. Shubh Bhalla had sent a complaint to the IG in April this year.

PATWARI HELD: The Vigilance Bureau arrested a patwari while taking a bribe of Rs 9,000 for registration of land from Gurnam Singh, a resident of Uthia village in Ajnala tehsil, here on Thursday. Mr T.P.S. Sandhu, SP (Vigilance), said a case had been registered.

BATHINDA
LECTURE: A lecturer was organised at the local Rajindra College on Thursday. Dr Inderjit Singh Sethi, Reader, Department of Political Science, Punjabi University, Patiala, spoke on human rights while Dr Manju Verma, Professor and Head, Department of Political Science of the college, delivered a lecture on women empowerment.

FARIDKOT
LAW & ORDER: Mr Kulshinder Singh, SSP, Faridkot has underlined the need for taking effective measures to check population, illiteracy and drug addiction for the betterment of the society. He said these evils were posing problems in maintaining law and order. He said this while addressing a press conference at his office here on Thursday. 

JALANDHAR
PAK PLAY: The Ajoka Theatre Group, led by Pakistani theatre personality Madlha Gohar, will present qawwalis and its famed play, “Bullah”, during its two-day visit to Jalandhar, beginning November 22.

KAPURTHALA
ANNUAL DAY: The local MGN Public School organised its annual day function on Wednesday. Dr Kewal Krishan, Speaker, Punjab Vidhan Sabha, presided over the function. Addressing students, the Speaker lauded the role of public schools in imparting quality education. The students presented a cultural programme. The Speaker gave a grant of Rs 1 lakh to the school. Principal Inderjit Kaur read out the annual report of the school.

LUDHIANA
WORKSHOP: Orthopaedic surgeon Dr S.J. Yim, MD from Soon Chur Hyang University, South Korea, will hold an operative workshop at Ludhiana in association with the Institute of Orthopaedics and Superspeciality Trauma Centre at Gurdev Hospital from November 24 to 27. Dr Yim is expert in joint-replacement surgery. 

JEWELLERY: Swaran Sambandh, a four-day designer jewellery exhibition, was inaugurated here at Hotel Park Plaza. Talwar Jewellery House presented an exquisite array of diamond jewellery and designer watches from the house of Chopard, Cartier, Piaget and Baume and Mercier. 

ING VYSYA: ING Vysya Life Insurance Company on Friday launched its operations in the city with the inauguration of its office. Mr Yvo Metzelaar, CEO and MD, Mr Ad de Graaf, Chief Operating Officer, and Mr Kshitij Jain, Vice-President (Sales) were among those present at the function. Mr Metzelaar claimed that the company had crossed the Rs 1000-crore mark as sum assured during this month. Top
