SC stays trial in Godhra, nine other cases
Issues notice to Gujarat Government

The Supreme Court, which had earlier expressed anguish over the callous way of handling trials in riot cases in Gujarat, today lashed out at the Narendra Modi government again for showing no change in functioning. It also stayed the trial in 10 important cases relating to the killing of hundreds of people.

BCCI suspends Kale, orders probe

Abhijit KaleRocked by unprecedented charges of bribery, the Board of Control for Cricket in India moved in quickly today and suspended first class cricketer Abhijit Kale for allegedly offering Rs 10 lakh each to two national selectors for a place in the Indian team to Australia and ordered an inquiry into it.

35 hurt in bomb attack in Parbhani
Parbhani, November 21
At least 35 persons were injured after two unidentified motor cycle-borne miscreants threw a bomb inside a place of worship in Parbhani in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra today. The Deputy Chief Minister, Mr Chhagan Bhujbal, told reporters that the blast had taken place late in the afternoon and curfew had been imposed in the area.

Storm brewing in Punjab Cong

The lull in the Punjab Congress indicates that a storm is brewing and the contentious leaders for the top post are only waiting for the December 1 Assembly poll to be over. After Amarinder Singh, who campaigned for the party in Madhya Pradesh, stay put in Delhi amidst reports of his meeting with senior Congress leaders, Rajinder Kaur Bhattal arrived in the Capital today.

Centre rapped over appointment of competition panel head

The Supreme Court today expressed dissatisfaction over the Centre’s affidavit defending the appointment of a non-judicial person as chairman of the Competition Commission, forcing Attorney General Soli J. Sorabjee to make a commitment that the government would delete Section 39 of the relevant statute, which facilitates such an appointment.

Bathinda refinery's fate uncertain
