2,703 cases of dengue so far: MCD

New Delhi, November 12
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has notified 17 cases of dengue during the last 24 hours, taking the total to 2,703 cases. However, there have been no deaths reported in the last one day.

The MCD pointed out that of the total dengue cases, 2,151 have been reported from Delhi, 347 from Central Delhi, 286 from Shahdara (South), 234 from Shahdara (North), 212 from Najafgarh, 209 from Civil Lines, 202 from South Delhi, 166 from Rohini, 151 from West Delhi, 123 from Karol Bagh, 73 from city, 53 from Sadar Paharganj and 32 from Narela.

Chairman of the Standing Committee Ram Babu Sharma said that a committee has been constituted, which will ensure necessary steps to be initiated to make functional all the streetlights. The committee will also make sure that the pending electricity bills are paid to the MCD.

Mr Y D Bankata, Additional Commissioner (Revenue) has been appointed the Chairman of the committee, which also comprises two members including the Chief Accountant-cum-Financial Adviser and the Chief Engineer (Electricity).

Loadshedding

The North Delhi Power Limited has announced loadshedding on November 13 in Kirti Nagar and Gopinath Bazar, Rohini and Civil Lines from 10 am to 5 pm due to maintenance work.

Lok Adalats on Nov 15

Faridabad: Lok Adalats will be held in courts of all the additional district and sessions judges here on November 15. According to the District and Sessions Judge, Ms Nirmal Yadav, the Lok Adalats will take up many cases, including the Hindu Marriage Act and Motor Vehicles Act for settlement. TNS

Sundergarh to meet Jalandhar in hockey final

New Delhi, November 12
Town High School, Sundergarh, defeated Birsa Munda Vidyapitha, Rourkela, 2-1 and Government Model School, Jalandhar, edged past Baba Farid Public School, Faridkot (Punjab), 2-1 to set-up the title clash in the 21st Nehru Sub-Junior Hockey Tournament for boys under-15 years at the Shivaji Stadium today.

The final will be played on Thursday at 3.15 p m.

In the first semi-final, the Sundergarh School struck once in each half to sail into the final.

Sunil Kujur, who scored the first goal in the 17th minute, also accounted for the second goal in the 44th minute to seal the fate of Birsa Munda.

In the second semi-final between two Punjab teams,

Jalandhar as usual called the shots through Lovepreet Singh who put them ahead with a goal off a penalty corner in the 13th minute.

Exactly 13 minutes later, the Faridkot boys drew parity through Kanwaljeet Singh, who too converted a penalty corner.

Deepak Sharma scored the match-winner for Jalandhar when he converted a penalty corner in the 35th minute.

Thursday’s fixtures: Birsa Munda Vidyapitha vs Baba Farid School (1 p m); Town High School vs Govt. Model School (3.15 p m)—Shivaji Stadium.

All-round performances by Tarun Kumar (35 and 3 for 24) and Anu Preet Singh (34 and 3 for 16) helped Guru Harikishan Public School, India Gate defeat Amity School by 40 runs and entered the quarter-final of the aseventh Sardar Harbans Singh Sistani Memorial Inter-School Cricket Tournament at the Lajpat Nagar ground.

Scores: GHPS: 167 all out in 24.1 overs (Tarun Kumar 35, Anupreet Singh 34, Angad Khaneja 4 for 21, Aman Sodhi 3 for 18).

Amity School: 127 all out in 21.4 overs (Vineet Kumar 34, Tarun Kumar 3 for 24, Anupreet Singh 3 for 16, Jaspreet Singh 2 for 32).

Seema Dahiya wins gold

Seema Dahiya of Sachdeva Public School, Rohini lifted a gold medal in the senior girls high jump by clearing 1.40m.

Monika Khattar of Sachdeva Public School, Moni and Geeta of SKV Karala and Sweety of PPS were part of the gold-winning 4x100m relay team in the Inter-Zone Athletic Meet held at the Chhatrasal Stadium.

GAIL beat Friends

Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) defeated Friends Globe by 68 runs in the seventh DG Phadkar Memorial Cricket Tournament at the Teri Oval.

Scores: GAIL: 176 for 7 in 25 overs (Akash Bhvan 69, Vimal 18, Santosh 3 for 25, Maneesh Mathur 2 for 39).

Indian Open Polo from Nov 14

The 103rd edition of the Indian Open Polo Tournament will be held at the Jaipur polo ground from November 14 to 23.

The Indian Open is considered as the national championship in polo and world champion riders and fascinating Argentine and Indian thoroughbred horses will be seen in action.

The tournament will be played on a league basis with each game played over six chukkers.

Subroto Cup soccer

The Subroto Cup Football Tournament for schools will be held at Ambedkar Stadium from November 22 to December 21.

The tournament will be held in two age groups—under-14 and under-17.

Raveena, Uttakarsh win golds

Raveena Chauhan and Uttakarsh Rai won gold medals in the 1500m race and 3000m race respectively in the fourth CBSE National Skating Championship held in Chandigarh last week.

Sumit Khurana won a bronze medal in the 1500m race. All are students of Hans Raj Model School, Punjabi Bagh.

Sumit Rana shines in Hans Raj’s victory

A sparkling unbeaten century by Sumit Rana, who hit 147 with four sixes and 13 boundaries off 127 balls, enabled Hansraj College defeat Atma Ram Sanathan Dharam College by 201 runs in the Inter-College Cricket Tournament at the Khalsa College ground. Sumit Rana and Deepak Sharma put on 176 runs for the opening wicket in 25.4 overs to star in the match. Deepak hit a dashing 66 with eight fours, off 66 balls.

Scores: Hansraj College: 285 for 2 in 40 overs (Sumit Rana 147 n o, Deepak Sharma 66, Sushil Kumar 33).

Asgar Ali fires sizzling 66

Veteran golfer Asgar Ali fired a career-best six-under par 66 to lead on the opening day of the Rs 8.5 lakh Servo Masters, the eighth leg of the Hero Honda Indian Golf Tour, at the Digboi Golf Links course today.

Asgar’s Kolkata city-mate SSP Chowrasia and Gast Ram were three strokes behind the leader with 69 apiece.

Pappan and Zai Kipgen shared the fourth spot with a total of 2-under par 70 while five others—Sandeep Syal, Sanjay Kumar, Suleman Ali, Vishal Singh and Yusuf Ali—shared the sixth position.

Asgar, who is battling back pain, has been advised rest by the doctor. However, the zeal to play has brought him back to the course. After an early birdie on the third, he ended up with a bogey on the fifth.

But he came back strongly, firing a quadruple of birdies, beginning from the very next hole to be four-under for the front nine.
