Oswal School on a goal-scoring spree

New Delhi, November 5
Oswal Jain Senior Secondary School, Alwar went on a goal-scoring spree when they trounced St. Agnes School, Dehradun 14-0 in the Nehru Sub-Junior Hockey Tournament at the Shivaji Stadium on Wednesday.

Pankaj S Yadav, who opened the account in the very first minute, also scored the 11th and 13th goals. Abhay S. Naruka, who scored the second goal in the third minute, slotted home the third and sixth goals while Sanjay Kumar Saini knocked in a brace.

Amit Aswal, Rupak K. Saini and Arvind Naruka scored a goal each while Amit Yadav powered in two goals.

In another high-scoring match, Young Pioneers English School, Imphal (Manipur) trounced YMCA College Sports School, Chennai 7-1, after leading by 5-1 at half time. Thingom Hemjit scored the first goal while Khadrangbam Kothaji accounted for the second goal. Wishram Herojit scored a brace while Soram Rabi scored three goals.

Loyola School, Jakhama (Nagaland) beat Ila Memorial School, Indore 5-0. Three goals came in the first half. N Pitovi Achimi, Mhasilekho Richa, Pusato Zao, Vizoto Zao and Viprezoto Sophie were the marksmen. Govt School, Jashpur Nagar (Chhattisgarh) defeated NCC, Sonepat 3-2.

Victor Ekka scored the first goal for Chhatisgarh while Sudhakar Yadav equalised for Sonepat. Deepak Dhaiya then put Sonepat in the lead in the 18th minute, and they held on to it till half time.

On resumption, Asheet Kerketta equalised for Chhatisgarh.

Vijay Bahadur stars in SBI’s victory

A deadly bowling performance by Vijay Bahadur Mishra, who scalped three wickets for 15 runs, enabled State Bank of India (SBI) defeat Gush Club by six wickets and entered the quarter-final of the Prem Lata Trophy C L Gupta Memorial Cricket Tournament at the Mohan Meakin ground.

The tournament was inaugurated jointly by SBI Delhi Circle general manager Gopalakrishnan and former Test player Ashok Malhotra. SBI Circle general secretary V. K. Gupta and organising secretary Sunil Chugh were also present.

Scores: Gush Club: 132 all out in 39.3 overs (Sukhjeet Gill 18, Gursaran Singh 18, Vijay Bahadur Mishra 4 for 35, Kuldeep Diwan 3 for 15). SBI: 136 for 4 in 32.4 overs (Bhuvnesh Sharma 51 n o, 7x4; Ajay Verma 31 n o, Pankaj Kaushik 25, Ankur Julka 1 for 19).

IOC, ONGC enter final

Quick fire knock of (61) runs by U. K. Sharma and (59) by K. Taneja Helped IOC beat EIL by 88 runs and entered into the final of the all India PSPB inter unit veteran cricket tournament at Kalindi college GR and here today. In second match ONGC defeated BPCL by six wickets and also enter in final. Final will be played tomorrow Thursday at Kaundi College Ground.

IOC: 190 for 4 in 20 overs (U K Sharma 61, K Taneja 59, R Rohtagi 2 for 22). EIL: 102 for 9 in 20 overs (K J Singh 20, A K Seth 26, I P Singh 3 for 22). BPCL: 94 for 8 in 20 overs (R G Kori 28, M Seth 2/09, P Sen Gupta 2 for 11). ONGC: 95 for 4 in 18.2 overs (Sudhir Gagan not out 25, S K Patel 21).

Jetender shines

Fine all-round display by Jetender (83 run and 3 for 16) held reliable eleven beat Panalpina by 45 runs and get two point in ACCD cricket tournament at Venkteswara college ground.

Reliable: 171 for 9 in 25 overs (Jetender 83, Gutam 2 for 25)

Panalpina: 126 all out in 23 overs (Parvinder 24 Ajay 2 for 23, Jetender 3 for 16).

G D Goenka wins

An all-round performance by Geet Arora 47 and 3 for 28, helped G D Goenka School Vasant Kunj beat Harry cricket academy by five runs in the 6th Chacha Nehru (Under-17) cricket tournament at Najafgarh Sports complex.

G D Goenka: 156 all out in 34.1 overs (Geet Arora 47, Ankit Jain 31, Mayank Sethi 23, Moncy vergis 4 for 15, Ravi Kumar 3 for 12.

Harry Academy: 151 all out in 34.2 overs (Inderdeep Singh 42 n o, Gagandeep 24, Geet Arora 3 for 28, Ketan Khurana 3 for 24, Mayank Sethi 3 for 33.

Naresh, Haneef deadly

Deadly bowling by Naresh Kapruwan (3 for 31) and Mohd. Haneef (3 for 42) helped Ministry of Health beat Telefunken Club by four wickets in the DDCA A-II Division League at the RSC ground.

Ministry of Health scored 169 for 6 in 32.5 overs.

Scores: Telefunken: 168 all out in 39.3 overs (Gulzar Kaushal 46, Asjeet Jai Prakash 30, Naresh Kapruwan 4 for 31, Mohd. Haneef 3 for 42).

ESPN to telecast Mr Universe final

New Delhi, November 5
ESPN Star Sports has acquired the telecast rights of the finals of the 57th edition of the Mr Universe contest.

Nearly 200 bodybuilders from 53 countries will flex their muscles at the show, officially titled the ‘World Bodybuilding Championship’ to be held from November 7 to 9 at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai. Bodybuilders will be competing in seven weight categories — from 65kg to 90kg. The competition will be evaluated by over 40 officials. Vitender Singh of Uttar Pradesh, winner of the Mr Asia and Mr Commonwealth titles, is one of India’s top contenders. OSR
