Yoga catches on in Doraha
Lovleen Bains

Doraha, November 5
Yoga has been gaining popularity in Doraha ever since the Bharatiya Yog Sansthan opened its classes in the pollution-free atmosphere of the local Guru Nanak National College.

The number of people who come to the college, both in the morning and the evening, for yoga exercises admit that yoga has given them a new lease of life. After yoga exercise they feel relieved of their cares and worries. They experience an entirely tension-free atmosphere around them, they say.

A local resident says, “We are doing padam vajar, sakar, trikon, hal , tarh, sarp, sarwang, bhujang, shalab, ashwath, suriya, shavasnas etc. The bodily lightness felt through yoga is extreme. I feel that I cannot handle day’s work in a more, lighter mood and with minimum of pressure.”

Another resident says, “The open and clean environment of the college also makes us feel close to nature away from the noise of the town.”

The in charge of the yoga centre here, Ms Savita Bector, says the Bharatiya Yog Sansthan began its classes at the college in March, 1999, with the help of the college management committee and support of the principal. From June 15, 2001, the evening classes for ladies were started. The in charge for the morning session that is jointly conducted, is Mr Mani Bhooshan.

According to the in charges, “We are getting an overwhelming response from residents. Our workers are committed to provide the best to the people. Many people feel relieved of all sorts of mental and physical ailments that they had been suffering from for quite sometime.”

They also told that a magazine titled ‘Yog Manjari’ was being published in which we had included various lectures on health and healthy practices. “ Many people have benefited from this magazine.” “Our motto is to live and give life and we feel that we shall try our level best to work for the social, intellectual, mental and physical well-being of the society by ensuring them an effective health remedy that has become a must in the hectic schedule of the modern day world, “ asserts Mr Mani Bhooshan.

Mill workers attend dental camp
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, November 5
A dental check-up and awareness camp was organised at Mahavir Spinning Mills Limited here today by the team of dental experts form Baba Jaswant Singh Dental College and Hospital. An enthusiastic response of mill employees and their families to avail comprehensive check-up and dental treatment facilities was proof enough of the increasing awareness level of the city people towards the importance of dental oral hygiene, regular check-up and on-time treatment.

Industrial workers have been the prime focus of the ongoing dental awareness. The real cause is served when the patients are not restricted to camps and check-ups only, but religiously pursue the follow-up treatment . To ensure this, camp patients are provided special OPD cards with detailed diagnosis/treatment recommendations and concessional treatment charges on follow-up visits to the hospital.

Supporting this welfare cause, Mr I.M.J.S. Sidhu, Chief Executive/Director, and Mr Neeraj Abbott, VP Operations of the mills, also encouraged the employees to maintain good oral health and participate in dental awareness talks and camps being organised by the hospital from time to time.
