J&K to have six more ITIs Jammu, November 5 Six more industrial training institutes will soon come up in Jammu and Kashmir to impart vocational (ITIs) training to the youth. The state government has decided to set up the ITIs at Banihal, Akhnoor, Ramnagar, Doru, Bijbehara and Tangmarg, Minister for Technical Education Haji Nissar Ahmad said here yesterday. HC upholds life term for Shabir Ahmad Srinagar, November 5 The Division Bench headed by the Chief Justice dismissed the appeal filed by the accused and also upheld the order of the session court. According to a report, Shabir, who was working as counter-insurgent with the security forces, shot dead Abdul Gani Shah after he refused to marry her daughter to him at gun-point. It said after Shah refused to marry her daughter to him, the accused shot him dead at Achabal on August 6, 1997, when he was coming out from a mosque. Later the police arrested Shabir and four others for murdering Shah on a compliant filed by Shah’s family members. The session court later sentenced Shabir to life imprisonment and acquitted others after hearing the arguments from both the sides. However, Shabir, later appealed in the high court against the order that the weapon used in the crime had not been recovered by the police so far. The Division Bench dismissed the argument and upheld the sentence awarded to him by the session court.

Wildlife official, two jawans killed in valley Srinagar, November 5 The police said the militants fired upon Ghulam Ahmad Reshi, Range Officer in the Jammu and Kashmir Wildlife Protection Department, at about 12.50 p.m. He was taken to SMHS Hospital where he was declared brought dead. The incident took place about 100 yards from the main office of the department, located on the premises of the high security TRC. JAMMU: Two Army personnel were killed when terrorist ambushed a search party of Army in the Hari Budha forest area in Poonch. Reports said six militants were killed and two civilians injured in terrorism-related incidents. Mohammad Ayub and Mohammad Azam were injured when the militants forcibly entered their house and fired at them in Poonch on Tuesday. In a joint operation, two terrorists, were killed at the Dhoke Sowada nullah in Thana Mandi. A terrorist, Ishtiaq Ahmed, was killed in an encounter with the security forces at Amritsing Pura in Gandoh. In a gunbattle that broke out at Butawali village of Surankote, a militant and a security personnel were killed and two jawans injured. The security forces busted a militant hideout in the Budhal area of Rajouri district and recovered three AK magazines, five hand grenades and 90 rounds of AK

Two women killed in Pak shelling Srinagar, November 5 The heavy shelling which began in the
Tanghdar, Karnah and Machhil sectors yesterday continued throughout the night, they said. Thirtyfive-year-old Mukhti Begum and 17-year-old Meema Bano were killed and Meema’s mother Zoona Begum and Ghulam Ahmad Mir were critically injured in the Chontiwari area of the Macchil sector, the sources said. Three civilians were injured in the Karnah sector where three houses and a mosque were destroyed in the shelling. Indian troops retaliated but intermittent shelling continued throughout the night.

Reconsider withdrawal of BSF, says Deputy CM Jammu, November 5 Talking to mediapersons after the passing-out parade of BSF recruits at Udhampur, Mr Sharma said withdrawal of the force at this juncture would be crucial as the state government was successfully moving ahead for the restoration of peace in the state. He said the need was to supplement the force to tackle more effectively the continued cross-border terrorism. The Deputy Chief Minister appreciated the Centre for announcing initiation of dialogue with Pakistan for amicable solution of the problem and said the dispute only was about on that part of Kashmir which had been forcibly occupied by Pakistan. Mr Sharma said the Congress was not against the reopening of the Jammu-Sialkot route as it would provide ample opportunities to the people of both the sides of the state to know about the ground realities. He said the frequent visits of the people would help in confidence building and inter

leader released Srinagar, November 5 Mr
Rashid, general secretary of the Muslim League, was released by the district and sessions court after the government decided to revoke the Act invoked against him after his arrest on August 4, 2001, from his Botakadal-Lalbazar residence, the sources said. Mr Rashid had been released for 20 days on health grounds in June this year, but he was re-arrested on July 2. He was whisked away by his party supporters to the Hyderpora residence of rebel Hurriyat chairman Syed Ali Shah

J&K to have six more ITIs Jammu, November 5 There were already four government and seven private polytechnics, besides 37 ITIs in the state, he said. The polytechnics would be modernised under a World Bank aided project by 2005. The Technical Education Department was also modernising and introducing courses like dental laboratory technician, mechanic and consumer electronics. under a Centrally-sponsored Rs 30.60 crore scheme. The minister said information technology and electronics system maintenance had been introduced in the ITIs in Srinagar, Anantnag, Leh, Kishtwar and Jammu. Scheduled Tribe candidates from Jammu, Doda, Rajouri, Poonch, Udhampur, Kupwara, Anantnag and Baramula districts were being exclusively trained as electricians at the ITIs through additional facilities.

Panel for border migrants Jammu, November 5 A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting chaired by Assembly Speaker Tara Chand and attended by Revenue and Rehabilitation Minister Hakim Mohammad Yasin, Works Minister Madan Lal Sharma, Financial Commissioner, Home, S D Singh and senior officials here yesterday, sources said. The committee would explore the possibilities for the return of the border migrants to their homes, they said. Once the committed
submitted a detailed report, the state would approach the Centre with a plan to provide basic amenities and other facilities to the affected people.
