Roads unlikely to be repaired in winter
Tribune News Service

Panchkula, November 5
The poor condition of roads in various parts of the township is likely to remain so for the next couple of months. This is causing a lot of heartburn among local councillors.

Though all internal roads in the township were transferred by the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) to the Municipal Council MC from November 1, it will still be a while till tenders for the recarpetting and repair of roads are floated. Then, because of the winters, the recrapetting and repair work will not be carried on.

Mr V.K. Kapoor, Councillor from Ward No 6 and leader of the Congress in the MC House, said though HUDA had assured that all roads would be repaired and then transferred to the MC, it had not been done. He said several roads had pot holes and accidents were taking place, but neither HUDA nor the MC authorities were taking a note of the problem.

He also alleged that streetlights in most parts of the township had not been switched off for the past two days. Mr Kapoor said he had informed the Executive Officer of the MC about the streetlights not being switched off, and was told that because of a mechanical fault, these had not been switched off.
