50 fresh cases of dengue

Ludhiana, October 24
More than 50 cases of dengue were reported at various city hospitals in the past 24 hours. Twentythree patients with dengue-like symptoms were admitted at Christian Medical College here while more than 30 patients were admitted at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

The patients have been admitted from areas like Jail Road, Parbhat Nagar, New Model Town, Industrial Area A, Shivpuri Chowk, Pakhowal Road, BRS Nagar, Basti Jodhewal, Shivaji Nagar, Rahon Road, New Income Tax Colony, Vikas Nagar, New Shimlapuri, Kitchlu Nagar etc.

With the fresh cases, the total number of patients admitted at DMCH for treatment has increased up to 577. Out of this number, 345 have already been discharged and 227 are still under treatment. The dengue fever has claimed five lives so far.

Dr Bedi is Chairman, Sigma

“We are very lucky to have internationally renowned cardiac surgeon to serve heart patients of Punjab”, said Dr L.S.Chawla, former Principal, DMCH, and former Vice-Chancellor, Baba Farid University, here last evening at a function held in honour of Dr H.S.Bedi the new Executive Director and Chairman Sigma Heart Institute.

Talking to the media, Dr S.B. Khurana, former Principal, DMCH, said Dr Bedi had contributed extensively to the growth, development and training in the field of cardiac surgery.

Inderpreet, Kulwinder shine in cycling meet

Inderpreet Singh of GN College, Narangwal, and Kulwinder Kaur of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana, were adjudged the best cyclists in the one-day Panjab University inter-college cycling championship held at the velodrome of Punjab Agricultural University here on Wednesday.

Seventeen teams from affiliated colleges of Panjab University took part in the meet. Mr Jatar Singh Khangura, a Congress leader, inaugurated the championship while Mr Pritpal Singh, former Principal, Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana, gave away prizes to the winners.
