German teacher’s gesture
for kids with cancer Chandigarh, October 24 Mrs Sharma, visited the wards at PGI Advanced Paediatric Centre and spent sometime with the children. Members of
Sahayta, an NGO helping children suffering from cancer, were present on the occasion. Erika had visited the city a few months ago. She organised concerts in Germany so that more money could be arranged by creating awareness about the suffering of these underprivileged children”, said Inge. Erika, has also been selling greeting cards, made by Sahayta to people in Germany, to raise funds for the children suffering from cancer.
Sahayta Cancer Sahyog has been involved in providing emotional support and financial assistance to patients and families fighting cancer. Many other rehabilitation programmes are also being run by Sahayta for patients admitted to the PGI. The President of
Sahayta, Ms Neelu Tuli, said their NGO had been granted full membership of the International Confederation of Childhood Cancer Parent Organisations at Dublin in Ireland. She said the work being done by their NGO with paediatric oncologist, Dr
R.K. Marwah, and Dr Amita Trehan at the PGI, had also been appreciated by the international confederation. |
Lecture on nutrition Chandigarh, October 24 Dr Thapa talked about various aspects of child development and common problems observed in pre-school children. Teachers and students discussed the problems they had observed among children and put their queries to Dr Thapa. The in charge of NTT section, Ms Sweety Bahl, delivered the vote of thanks.

GNE win kabaddi title Dera Bassi, October 24 Organised by Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar, 14 teams from different private engineering collages, affiliated with the university, participated in the tournament. Mr Avtar Singh, chairman of the Sri Sukhmani Institute of Engineering and Technology, Dera Bassi, gave away prizes to the wining teams. He also appreciated the participants for playing with sportsmanship. As a part of the NSS activities, a hepatitis-B vaccination camp was also organised on the collage premises in which students and teachers were administered vaccines. Besides students of the college, those who were present at the occasion include Ms Kanwaljit Kaur, director of the Institute, Wg Cmdr. P. Prabhakar, director of Rand D wing, and other prominent persons of the area. |

Shopkeepers challaned for underweighing Chandigarh, October 24 Fines ranging from Rs 3,000 to Rs 30,000 were slapped on the traders, well placed sources confirmed. Teams of the weights and measures department had conducted searches in the city. Sources said a traders was found selling dry fruits without displaying the rates. Another halwai was caught while selling underweight boxes of sweet. At another place a shopkeeper was found using weights which are not standardised. All the traders were imposed challans. |
DPC meeting held Chandigarh, October 24 Another promotion in the Police Department is scheduled to be held in the next fortnight to promote one more inspector as DSP. Mr Inderjit Singh and Mr Arjun Jaggi are in the race. A DPC has already been held, only an order has to be issued.
