Sachdeva bag three golds

New Delhi, October 21
Sachdeva Public School, Rohini bagged three gold medals in the Zonal Basketball Tournament (Zone-XIII). The tournament was held today at Prince Public School, Rohini. The senior boys’ team defeated Delhi Public School, Rohini by 18-11. The junior boys’ team trounced St Margaret School, Rohini by 20-6. The sub-junior girls’ team beat Bagrodia, Rohini by 14.0 to win three gold medals. In the only match of the tournament, Divia Football Academy defeated DPS Mathura Road, in the under-17 match by 2-0. Sandip and Deepak were the scorers.

Mukesh shine

Deadly bowling by Mukesh Kumar 5 for 14 and splendid batting by Shashi Bhushan helped HUDCO beat Hughes Software Systems by 4 wicket and get two point in Suntan Cricket Tournament at Vinay Marg ground. Mukesh Kumar was given the man of the match award.

Score: Hughes Software Systems: 128 all out in 25 overs, Abhisek Mukherji 34 Tarun Makkar 20 Mukesh Kumar 5 for 14. HUDCO: 132 for 6 in 23 overs: Sashi Bhushan 25, Rajnees Saxena 20, Trun Makkar 3 for 22, Nishant Ranjan 2 for 26.

Indiar win

Fine all-round display Rajesh Dimpy (35 run 3 for 12) helped Indiar team beat Swift Fet by 11 run and get two point in ACCD cricket Tournament at Venkateswara College Ground. Score: Indiar Team: 149 all out in 23 overs Rajesh Dimpy 35 Amit Obroy 21 no Abdul Rehman 3 for 26, R. Shekar 2 for 21. Swift Fet: 138 all out in 24 overs: Subodh 24 Shekar 23 Rajesh Dimpy 3 for 12, Amit 2 for 14, Sourav 2 for 38.

Phadkar tourney

HDFC Bank trounced CR Infotech by 9 wickets in the 7th DG Phadkar Memorial Cricket Tournament at Teri Oval. Deepak Sharma of HDFC was adjudged as the man of the match. Score: CR Infotech: 73 all out in 21.3 overs: (Rajiv Sudan 21 (3x4s). Santram 3 for 13, Manish Bhardwaj 2 for 12. HDFC Bank: 74 for 1 in .4 overs (Deepak Sharma 39 not out (1x4s, 3x6s).

CEAT cricket rating on October 31

“The 8th Annual CEAT International Cricket Rating Awards for the year 2002-2003”, a-la Oscars for the international cricket fraternity, will be held on October 31 at Hotel Taj Mahal in Mumbai. The Ceat Cricket Rating Awards are based on a rating system devised by three legendary cricketers Ian Chappell, Sunil Gavaskar and Clive Lloyd. The awards recognising sterling performances in the field of cricket are considered truly international for the transparent and point based rating system.

Following are the nominees for the CEAT awards:

Ceat International Cricketer of the year: Ricky Ponting from Australia and Chris Gayle from the Caribbean Islands are vying for the top spot with their commendable batting performances. India’s Rahul Dravid has an outside chance as well.

Ceat International Team of the year: Here there is a race between Australia and South Africa and close on their heels is none other than India! Ceat International Batsman of the year: Ricky Ponting, Herschelle Gibbs and Rahul Dravid are enjoying a battle royal in this category! Who braces the tape first is a million dollar question. Ceat International Bowler of the year: The contenders for this honour are all from the Indian subcontinent. Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan and ever consistent Muttiah Muralitharan. Karthikeyan wins second place

Narain Karthikeyan rallied from behind to race to second position at the Superfund World Series by Nissan Championship at Valencia, Spain. He thus claimed his fifth podium finish of the season. In the race held earlier in the day, Narain was forced to retire from second position due to mechanical failures in the engine.

Narain continued his consistent performance this season and consolidated his overall second place in the championship with a tally of 130 points. The final race of the Superfund World Series will be held at Jarama, Spain on November 30.

CRPF beat Apollo International

Sonepat, October 21
The CRPF Public School, New Delhi avenged its group match defeat by beating the host Apollo International Public School, Bari (Sonepat) by 1-0 in the final of the second 12-day Soccer Championship concluded on Monday. The CRPF had lost the group match by 1-4 to Apollo International School.

The CRPF played defensive game right from the beginning and despite repeated attempts Apollo International failed to score any goal.

However, the wonder boy of the championship, and the youngest player of the tournament, Narender made a solo attempt and succeeded in scoring a goal for CRPF School in the 20th minute of the first half by dodging three defenders and goalkeeper of Apollo International School.

In the second half, Apollo International boys made several attempts to equalise, but the spirited CRPF defence foiled their all attempts and won the match.

The Union Minister of State for Home, Mr I. D. Swamy, gave away prizes to the winners and exhorted the boys not to get demoralised from the defeats, but to continue to learn more and more in order to reach to excellence.

He also asked the leading companies and business groups to promote the sports by contributing voluntarily and observed that if the youngsters are provided proper training and incentives, they can become leading sports stars in their life.

SDM Gannaur of Jeet Singh Mehra, DSP Om Prakash, Principal of Apollo International School, K N Dhar, founder of Lions Club Ganaur D Paul Bhatia, were also present on the occasion.

CRPF ‘A’ lift volleyball title

The CRPF ‘A’ team defeated CRPF ‘B’ by 3-1 in the final of the 4th DDA Invitational Volleyball Tournament, which was played on the Hari Nagar Sports Complex.

In the beginning, CRPF ‘B’ team took the lead with the help of Shajimon P. R. Dharmender, Ashok Kumar, M. K. Singh, who gave better combination of defence and attack. Finally, with the help of Vikas Tomar, CRPF ‘A’ won the match by 3-1 (19-25, 25-14, 25-14, 26-24).

Mr S. C. Karanwal, Chief Architect, DDD, gave away prizes to the winners. Also present on the occasion, Brig R. N. Pandit, secretary (Coordn), Mr Kishore Chand SR AO (sports) and J R Mehra, vice-president, Delhi Volleyball Association.

Roopak guides SG to victory

New Delhi, October 21
Fine bowling performance by skipper Roopak Mishra (3 for 17) guided Sanspareils Greenlands (SG) to an exciting 6 wickets victory over Apollo Tyres in the 3rd Turf Twenty 20 Cup on the Jamia Ground.

Batting first, Apollo Tyres scored 98 for 9 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. In replay, SG achieved the victory target with only 7 balls to spare with 6 wickets in hand. Dheeraj had an excellent spell of 2 for 5 in four overs for Apollo Tyres. Roopak Mishra was adjudged the man of the match award while Abhishek and Dheeraj were given the best batsman and best bowler.
