English literature his obsession
Lovleen Bains

Doraha: Life has never been a smooth affair for Prof I.S.Chadha. Straining personal relationships and facing social repulsions , Professor Chadha by dint of his persistent devotion and hard labour became a literary personality and renowned graphologist.

His first love, no doubt, has been literature. After his brief stints as an English lecturer at GGN Khalsa College, Ludhiana and Guru Nanak Girls College Ludhiana, Professor Chadha plunged headlong into teaching English literature to post- graduate students in Ludhiana. Teaching and learning English is his obsession.

Professor Chadha, the son of a highly decorated education officer of the Indian Army, was born on October 30, 1944, at Murid in West Pakistan. He received his master’s degree in English literature from Government College, Ludhiana. He regards Prof R.N.Matta to be his friend, philosopher and guide, as he strongly believes that it was under his guidance that he got the inspiration to teach and write literature.

His maiden book “A compendium of literary and social terms” is much sought after by students of literature. It won universal acclaim for the author. Professor Chadha plans to release there more books on literature soon. These are “History of literary criticism”, “Post-colonial literature” and “Literary terms”.

Apart from being a literary man, he is also a noted graphologist. He says that a person’s handwriting not only provides clues to his personality, but also helps in reading his mind. He says, "The science of graphology is as old as the art of handwriting itself. Even the Greek and Roman philosophers believed that the script of a person provided clues to his physical and mental traits.”

Professor Chadha believes that graphology can help people know themselves. “A skilled graphologist,” he says,“ can assist people in the selection of marriage partners, parents can understand their children better and family reunions can be brought about.”

He opines, “Graphology can work wonders in the field of education. A graphologist can find out which career is most suitable for a particular student. Graphotherapy is of great use in improving the memory of students and their functional intelligence. With its help we can diagnose why a student is dull or slow at studies.”

According to him, “Criminal tendencies are revealed through handwriting. Graphology has succeeded where lie-detecting machines have failed. Also the physical disorders as of the heart, stomach, joints and the nervous system are revealed through the handwriting of the person. The dishonesty of employers and their incompetency is also exposed through handwriting.” He says, “Graphology not only detects deadly diseases like cancer but also helps in curing them.”

He has delivered extension lectures on the subject at Government College for Women, SCD Government College, Khalsa College for Women, GGN Khalsa College, Guru Nanak Girls College, Guru Nanak National College, Doraha, Kundan Vidya Mandir School, Rotary Club, Lions Club, etc. He feels that the subject of graphology should be introduced in colleges.
