Rajesh hattricks for Dhani Ram School

New Delhi, October 19
A fine hattrick by Rajesh was the highlight of Dhani Ram School’s 4-1 victory against Man Public School in the Nivia Schools Football Tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium on Sunday.

In another match, DDA Academy drew 1-1 with President’s Estate. Tushar scored for DDA while Arun netted the goal for President’s Estate.

Sachin Garude retains title

Sachin Garude of Western Region beat teammate N Pithawala 11-7, 14-12, 11-8, 16-14 to lift the singles title in the Indian Airlines Inter-Region Table Tennis Tournament at the Community Centre in Vasant Vihar.

In the men’s doubles, Ranjan Kundoo and K N Kishan of Northern Region annexed the title, beating N Pithawala and Godfrey Pereira 16-14, 11-7, 11-13, 11-4.

Following are the other results: Men’s singles semi-finals: Sachin Garude b N K Kishan 13-11, 11-9, 9-11, 6-11, 2-11, 11-2; Pithawala b Harish Chand 11-6, 11-8, 11-7, 11-5.

Men’s doubles semi-finals: Ranjan Kundoo and Kishan b Sachin Garude and C B Mainkar 8-11, 12-10, 14-12, 11-2; Pithawala and Godfrey Pereira b Harish Chand and J S Bajaj 11-4, 11-4, 11-6.

Mixed doubles final: Sachin and Rajni Sriniwas b Pithawala and Kalpana 7-11, 7-11, 11-6, 11-5, 12-10.

Lohia record facile win

S M Lohia College, Kolhapur trounced St. Xavier’s High School, Mazaffarpur (Bihar) 5-2 in the Nehru Junior Hockey Tournament at the Shivaji Stadium on Sunday.

Malai Jotiba (2), Shinde Manohar, Power Shankaran and Chopade Suresh scored for the winners while Suryanath Sharma and Md. Riyazuddin accounted for St. Xavier’s goals. St. Xavier’s School, Goa defeated Govt. Inter College, Narender Nagar (Uttranchal) 4-2, TTT VI KA School, Pondicherry drew 1-1 with Govt. School, Dhandhela (Rajasthan) and Sainik School, Bijapur (Karnataka) b MGS Inter-College, Sultanpur 3-2.

Noel Thomas, Joshua Mascaranhas, Andy Coutinho and Neville Rodrigues scored for Goa while Mukesh Deorari and Dinesh Singh were Uttaranchal’s markesmen. Suresh scored for Pondicherry while Prahalad Singh equalised for Rajasthan. C M Hiremath, Jagdish S Nandihal and Ravi Kumar scored for Bijapur while Salman siddiqui and Mohd. Gufran scored for Sultanpur.

Team TVS emerge victorious in MRF Motocross

New Delhi, October 19
Team TVS emerged victorious by dominating most of the classes in a fiercely fought battle between TVS Racing and Yamaha Racing in the third round of the MRF National Motocross Championship held at Hyderabad.

Team TVS also emerged triumphant in the most popular and the decider of the best racing team, Indian Expert Foreign Open up to 250CC. With this win, TVS Racing consolidated their lead.

C Vijaykumar, the reigning national motocross champion, having put a splendid performance, won the ‘best of the rider of the day’ title.

Vijaykumar, riding TVS 250X, shot into the lead from the start and kept the tempo going right till the end where he cleared the ‘tabletops’ with ease in the Moto One of the Indian Experts-Foreign Motorcycles Class Group A for motorbikes up to 250cc.

Yogesh Barguje of Yamaha Racing closely followed him, but failed to catch up. The second moto of the same class turned out to be the decider in which the top two spots were bagged by Syed Rahman and C Vijayakumar of Team TVS Racing. Yogesh Barguje of Yamaha Racing came third.

The other classes too saw TVS taking the honours where the popular TVS Victor displayed excellent performance. Of the eight races, TVS Racing won five. In the demonstration class, local favourite Vishal Rochinramani, a 13-year-old racing wonder, enthralled the spectators with his daredevil act on his TVS 250X motorbike.

General Manager of TVS Motor Company Arvind Pangaonkar said he was delighted with the team’s performance. He said he was looking forward to the Mumbai leg on November 9, in which TVS was expected to do still better.

Ayub Khan shines in JK Tyre Racing

Ayub Khan raced to glory, capturing both the titles in the Saloon Class while Sivaramkrishnan finished second in both the races after a close fight in the opening round of the JK Tyre National Racing Championship at the Sriperumbedur Race Track near Chennai on Sunday. Radha Sevarajan finished third in the first race while J D Madan took the last podium spot in the second race. The championship is being organised under the aegis of the Madras Motorsport Club.

The Formula Maruti Class witnessed some very inspiring driving and lots of jockeying for positions. Formula Asia driver Sarosh Hataria took the top podium position in both the races. Gaurav Gill, racing for the first time, impressed many and went on to emerge the winner in the novice driver Race I.

Apollo International, CRPF enter semis

Sonepat, October 19
The host, the Apollo International Public School, Bari (Sonepat), and the CRPF Public School, Delhi have entered the final of the second 12-day Apollo Soccer Championship by defeating the Laxman Public School, New Delhi and N. K. Bagrodia Public School, New Delhi respectively in the semi-finals encounters on Saturday.

In the first semi-final, CRPF Public School and N. K. Bagrodia remained evenly matched and both the teams failed to score any goal during the scheduled match time. Finally, the match was decided through penalty kicks in which Shushant Yadv and Om Prakash of the CRPF School scored the goals against a solitary goal from Tanuj of Bagrodia.

In the second semi-final, Apollo International School and Laxman School played a defensive game during the first half, which remained goal less. After breather, Apollo boys changed their strategy and started playing attacking game. This paid dividend, when Amit Lochab netted a goal and it was followed by another goal of Jaison. However, in the closing minutes, Laxman boys went all out on attack and Shashank succeeded in scoring a goal just five minutes before the close of the play.

The final of the championship will be played on October 20 and the Union Minister of State for Home, Mr I. D. Swamy, will give away prizes to the winners.

Saurabh finds place in skating site

Faridabad, October 19
The worthy efforts by Saurabh Duggal, an engineering student and presently coach (skating) at Gymkhana Club here, in promoting roller-skating at various levels have brought good results. His report on a skating event held here recently has got a place on the ‘skatelog.com’, a worldwide known website of the game on the Internet.

The write-up of Mr Duggal, ‘Future Skating Champions’, has details of the `Beginners Meet’, held here in June this year, in which about 77 skators aged between 4 and 16 years took part. It states that every year parental skating body of Faridabad organise a beginners meet for the newest skators, where all participants receive prizes. It says the event boosts the morale and enthusiasm of new skators and this could one day produce national and international champions.

According to the write up, Faridabad was one of the new places in India, where first ‘banked skating track’ was located and the town had hosted various national level championships.

Salwan in strong position

A deadly bowling performance by Sawan Saini (4 for 34) helped Salwan Boys pile up 166 for 3 in their first innings after dismissing DAV Shalimarbagh for 193 on day one of the two-day final of the fourth Parle Cup Inter-School Cricket Tournament at the Bharat Nagar ground on Sunday.

Salwan are now poised to take first innings lead to put themselves in an unassailable position as they have 15 overs more in hand to complete their first innings.

Scores: DAV Shalimarbagh (1st innings): 193 all out in 45.3 overs (Soumik Chatterjee 84, Lov Sherawat 32, Sawan Saini 4 for 34, Gurpreet Singh 2 for 32, Ashutosh Sharma 2 for 31). Salwan Boys (1st innings): 166 for 3 in 35 overs (Yogesh Nagar 60, Rajeev Sharma 49, Arun Choudhary 23 n o).

Paragon Club win

Deadly bowling by Baljinder Singh (3 for 20) helped Paragon Club beat Syndicate Bank by 12 runs in the DDCA A-II Division League at the RSKP ground.

Ashoka Club beat City Gymkhana by six wickets in an A-II Division match.

Scores: Paragon: 148 all out in 38 overs (Rajesh Mahajan 21, Rajesh Raina 3 for 21, Bhola Shankar 2 for 20). Syndicate Bank: 132 all out in 33.3 overs (Kishan Singh Bisht 50, Baljinder Singh 3 for 20, Laxman Bisht 2 for 20). City Gymkhana: 117 all out in 30.5 overs (Piyush Tiwari 31, Lokesh Kulbe 24, Ravinder Bhola 4 for 25, Dalbir Rawat 3 for 25).

18 probables for Haryana Ranji Trophy

The selectors expressed their faith in young and less experienced cricketers while naming 18 probables for the forthcoming Haryana Ranji Trophy team.

Ajay Ratra, Amit Mishra, Jitender Singh, Shafiq Khan and Ishan Ganda are the experienced cricketers to get selectors’ nod. Most of the other cricketers have been included in the list of probables on the basis of their performance at junior level in recent years. As many as 142 aspirants appeared for the trials.

The following are the names of the probables:
