St. Stephen’s boys win hockey championship

St Stephen’s School, Sector 45, became the proud winner of the under-17 boys’ hockey title in the UT Inter-School Hockey Tournament played here today. In the final match St Stephen’s outplayed Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 35, by 4-3 (tie breaker). Ritu Raj scored two goals, while Harjit and Aseem scored one goal each for winners. The team was coached by Ms Satinder Walia, international women hockey player, now a sports teacher in the school.

Sanjay Public School, Sector 44 boys who won the UT Inter-School Handball Title here today.

DAV school wins: DAV Public School, Sector 8, won the under-16 girls table tennis title by defeating Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Sector 26 by three matches to one in the CBSE Cluster XI TT tournament played here today on the DAV school premises.

Handball champs: Sanjay Public School, Sector 44, outplayed DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, 20-17 to lift the under-19 boys title in the UT Inter-School Handball Tournament played here today at the Government Model School, Sector 42. Half time score was 9-7.

MC to levy 5 per cent property tax

Chandigarh, October 17
The Municipal Corporation will levy property tax at the rate of 5 per cent on commercial property in the city. The Adviser the UT Administrator, Mr Raminder Singh Gujral, said the Municipal Corporation would initiate levy of property tax at the rate of 5 per cent so that it may become a major source of revenue of the urban local body.

A resolution of the MC asking for reduction of property tax to 2 per cent from 5 per cent has been suspended, said Mr Gujral, who is also Secretary, Local Government. Earlier, the MC House had said the tax may be reduced.

In the past elected councillors had raised the issue of property tax.
