The Lav-Kush Ram Lila Committee, patronised by the BJP MP from Chandni Chowk, Mr Vijay Goel, today sought the intervention of the Congress President, Ms. Sonia Gandhi, and asked her to take action against her party man Jai Prakash Aggarwal, patron of the rival Shree Ramlila Committee which, they claim, is disturbing its programmes at the Ram Lila ground.

Three unidentified armed robbers barged into a house in Sector 22 in broad daylight and decamped with valuables worth Rs 50,000. A case has been registered. According to reports, the incident took place around noon in house no 486, belonging to one S. K. Jain.

IAS officer discharged in molestation case
Sonepat:
The District and Sessions Judge of Sonepat, Mr B. L. Singhal, has discharged Mr D. R. Dhingra, a senior IAS officer of Haryana, in a criminal case filed against him by a woman employee of the District Rural Development Authority (DRDA). Mr Singhal exonerated him of all charges of molestation and humiliation.

Gang of robbers smashed
Sonepat, October 1
With the arrest of four persons, the Government Railway Police (GRP) have busted a gang of robbers operating for the past few months in this area. According to a report, the arrested persons were identified as Qamuriddin, alias Kala, Mohammad Shafi, Jamil and Meharuddin. All the culprits, belonging to Idgah Colony of Sonepat, had robbed a passer-by of Rs 1,000 on September 26. Further investigations were in progress.

WB gives Rs 10 cr grant to Murthal engg college

The World Bank has sanctioned a grant of Rs 10 crore for the expansion of CR State College of Engineering at Murthal in Sonepat district. Mr Dharamvir, Financial Commissioner and Secretary, Technical Education, Haryana, said this while inaugurating the zonal youth festival on the premises of the college, about 5 km from here, yesterday.

Wages of bribe: Four-year term for retd SI
New Delhi, October 1
A Delhi Police Sub-Inspector who had taken bribe from a person in May 1996 was today sentenced by a Delhi court to an imprisonment of four years for demanding and accepting bribe and showing favour in two cases registered against the person.

Military Nursing Service celebrates Raising Day

 To mark the day when a permanent Nursing Service was formed in the Indian Army, which consisted of 12 matrons, 18 sisters and 25 staff nurse, who were exclusively received from the India, on the first day of October in 1926, the Military Nursing Service today celebrated it 78th Raising Day.

Delhi Sports edge past Azad Club
New Delhi, October 1
Delhi Sports Club beat Azad Club 2-1 in a Super League match of the PNB Delhi State Hockey League for Clubs at the Shivaji Stadium on Tuesday. All the goals came in the second half.

Licences of five fair price shops cancelled
Sonepat, October 1
The Food and Supplies Department has cancelled the licences of five fair price shops and suspended the supply of rationed commodities to 14 other fair price shops in Sonepat district during the current financial year. The action was taken against them for committing irregularities and malpractices in the distribution of rationed articles.
