Vigilance officer accused of overlooking lapses Sonepat, September 26 According to a report, the office seems to exist only on paper as the officer, Mr S. K. Tyagi, has been unable to make any difference to the functioning of the department. Enquiries revealed that Mr Tyagi, SDO (Vigilance), has not maintained his headquarter at Sonepat. It is alleged that Mr Tyagi, who belongs to Faridabad, commutes to Sonepat. It is also alleged that he often overlooks the lapses of the Sonepat construction division for ulterior purpose. The people have demanded a high-level probe into the matter. In the absence of any supervision from the top, Mr Tyagi has been accused of ignoring the complaints of the people. It is alleged that some of the works carried out by the officials of this division are sub-standard. According to informed sources, the bulk of the amount spent on the construction works had been misappropriated by some of the officials entrusted with the job for the execution of construction works. It is alleged that some of the works executed by this division during the past few years have remained only on paper. The muster-rolls have also included names of persons who have never been put on the job. Residents as well as sarpanches and panches of the villages of the area have also alleged that the Sonepat construction division has become the subject of public criticism as the funds allotted for the construction of bridges on the canal network and other works are being misutilised by some officials. Representatives of various farmers organisations have demanded a high-level probe into the working of this construction division and stern action against the erring officials. They also expressed their grave concern over the inefficient and unsatisfactory working of the Gohana Water Service Division in this district. Sarpanches and panches of the area have also demanded a high-level probe into the complaints of the farmers regarding the inadequate and erratic supply of canal water here. |
CAG report on power: BJP seeks CM’s scalp New Delhi, September 26 The BJP spokesman, Mr V.K. Malhotra, and Delhi unit president Madan Lal Khurana also demanded a CBI probe into power privatisation and said the party unit would approach Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani in this connection. They asked the Congress to act against its government in the city in view of the CAG report as it had been stalling Parliament and boycotting Defence Minister George Fernandes over the CAG’s remarks against the defence ministry. “Dikshit should resign in view of the CAG report pointing out grave irregularities and holding the Delhi government responsible for the scam committed in the process of privatisation,” Mr Malhotra and Mr Khurana said in a joint press conference. “If she does not resign by October 5, the BJP will launch mass agitation against her government in Delhi,” they warned. Asserting that the BJP was not against privatisation but the ‘way’ it was done, Mr Khurana alleged that the “Congress government, in connivance with the private companies, have made privatisation a money-spinning racket without caring for the damage caused.” |
