SC rejects farmers’ plea on land compensation

The Supreme Court has turned down an appeal against a decision of the Punjab and Haryana High Court relating to enhancement of compensation to those whose land was acquired by the Haryana Urban Development Authority here, putting hundreds of farmers in a quandary.

A reputed businessman of the city was abducted by four armed youths while he was out for a morning stroll at about 6 am today. The goldsmith, Ashok Kumar Rastogi, was kidnapped from the Western Court road.

Navratra Mela is being organised at the Badri Bhagat Jhandewalan Temple starting today. The mela will continue till October 4, the last day of the festive navratras. Seven thieves held; goods seized
Pilkhua (Ghaziabad), September 26
Pilkhua police claimed to have nabbed four auto thieves after an encounter. Two motorcycles were seized from them. The theft from a towel merchant’s godown has also been solved with the arrest of three persons. Four bundles containing 700 towels each have been recovered from them.

The Crime Branch claimed to have apprehended four desperate gangsters who had assembled near the Rajendra Place area to commit dacoity. Country-made pistols and surgical blades were recovered from their possession.
