Abbas group sends notices to
defectors Jammu, September 26 The APHC (Abbas) had waited for a fortnight for the members to return to the parent fold or a probable patch-up between the two factions following intervention by Maulvi Umar Farooq, the Chairman of the Awami Action Committee. When no member returned to the Abbas faction and the peace moves failed, the executive committee of the APHC (Abbas) decided to send show-cause notice to the eight members. Maulvi Abbas Ansari, the chairman of the APHC (Abbas), said: “in our ahow-cause notice, we have been polite, leaving scope for the members to return to our fold.” He, however, said in case the members still remained defiant,” We will have no other alternative but to expel them.” Political observers say the APHC (Abbas) had been forced by circumstances to initiate disciplinary action against the eight members of the general council who had defected to the Geelani faction because an impression had been formed that the Abbas faction had no alternative. |

China intruded into Shehoon, says hill council chief Leh, September 26 He said in the middle of the last year there was a major intrusion by China in the Shehoon area. “They constructed roads in our area and were planning some major works,” he said adding that “we got the area cleared from the intruders.” It took some weeks to see that the area has been occupied by China. It was cleared of all intruders and now the entire Shehoon was under our control. “We have recently received information about China’s intrusion in the Chemoon area where our farmers were being threatened by Chinese troops, he added. Farmers cannot toll their land or take their livestock for grazing, he said. “We have already taken up the matter with the authorities concerned,” he added. The deployment of the security forces in Sheshoon and Chemoon have been further strengthened to avoid such incidents in future, Mr Tswang said. “We do rceive information about intrusion in other border areas also. But these are not too serious,’’ he said. About Pakistan, he said recently there was an incident of shelling in the Turtuk area in which some houses were damaged. “We have constructed underground bunkers in the Turtuk area so that in case of shelling by the Pakistani troops, people could take shelter there, he said adding that likely there was no report of any human loss. He said the council was planning to construct underground bunkers for schools and hospitals in the area so that in case of shelling by the Pakistanis troops, education of the students did not suffer. “We have requested the people of Turtuk to identify any alternative place, which they consider safe from Pakistani shelling, so that they could be shifted there. The authorities will take all possible steps within its means to provide every assistance to the people living near the border. —

Pak abetting militancy, says UK
General Srinagar, September 26 Replying to questions, General Walker said a joint exercise, aimed at command and control training by Indian and British troops, would be held in February-March next year. He said about 200 soldiers would participate in the exercise. He, however, replied in the negative when asked about any likelihood of joint anti-militancy operations. General Walker, at the 15 Corps Army Headquarters, also inspected some documents recovered from militants, giving ample proof of the Pakistan’s involvement in aiding and abetting militancy. |
